I think Clark would have to go the Cejudo route -- and Cejudo would have to not be at the trials for him to have a chance in 2012...now 2016, that is all together another dealio.

Quote from Jake Peterjohn's post:

"look out for jamie clark at 121-132 hes a stud"

I hope his shoulder is ok. I know he got hurt in Fargo.

Schlatter 74kg! After beating #2 Churella in straight sets, I think he will have a very good shot at making the world team this year.

Yes, I know no one has posted in this thread for over 6 months, but I should be studying for finals and am easily distracted.

Hank,
good analysis as always, though i differ a bit on a few points.

re Logan Stieber, yes he is perhaps as good as Cejudo at same age, imo, very close. BUT i watched Cejudo every summer in fargo, what separated HenryC was UNREAL speed. There is No answer for unreal speed & quickness like that. Only Escobedo has near that Cejudo speed.

Phil Davis is from Penn st, not American.

Tommy Rowlands will come back only if they institute a 230 weight class.

Varner No--- why not ? his strength is for sure not on his feet , its on top collegiate style, when Pucillo escaped him right away in NCAA finals i knew Mike would win it.

Varner is very good in free- beat Herbert last summer and by a respectable margin at that.

I think by the "American" reference, he meant Glenn. It is an interesting prospect, but I am not familiar with his FS background or current competition.

well if Varner beat Herbert in FR, then he must be pretty good i suppose -- i didnt see the match so i don't know what decided it ?? --- for Varner is Not good on his feet as far as offense goes which current rules emphasize, although maybe he has good defense ?? and of course par terre is much less important under the new rules.

Thanks for any kind words but this thread was begun over a year ago and I have no idea what I was thinking at the time.

More than anything else, I believe that under the current rules, Mike Pucillo would make a great freestyler. You score a point and defend. He's perfect for it.

The interesting thing about Varner is that, as much as he wrestles low scoring matches in folkstyle, he tends to be a scorer in freestyle. He beat Herbert in the wrestlebacks at US Nationals 5-1, 0-2, 2-1. He then beat Tyrel Todd for 5th place by a score of 2-0, 7-1. At the Olympic Team Trials, he beat Wattenburg 0-2, 4-3, 3-0. For some reason he scores more in free than he does in folk, despite the rules favoring the opposite.
