Wt Winning Wrestler (School) Win Type Losing Wrestler (School) Score

133 Dan Mitcheff (Kent State) DEC Robert Joyce (Northwestern) 5 - 1
141 Keith Sulzer (Northwestern) DEC Drew Lashaway (Kent State) 4 - 6
149 Gould, Martin (Northwestern) DEC Jeremy Depoy (Kent State) 2 - 5
157 Jason Welch (Northwestern) DEC Ross Tice (Kent State) 6 - 11
165 Dominic Marella (Northwestern) DEC Obie Simpson (Kent State) 2 - 6
174 Robert Kellogg (Northwestern) MD Jacob Donley (Kent State) 4 - 18
184 Jake Herbert (Northwestern) DEC Dustin Kilgore (Kent State) 3 - 6
197 Eric Chine (Kent State) DEC John Schoen (Northwestern) 11 - 6
285 Jermail Porter (Kent State) DEC Bennett Kuhar (Northwestern) 11 - 7

Note that Kilgore only lost 6-3 to Herbert. Scores don't tell the whole story of a match but that looks to be a credible effort.

Having Brian Roddy available to give a scouting report on Kilgore certainly worked to Herbert's advantage.

(JUST KIDDING!)

Three takedowns to none would be a semi-convincing win for Herbert over an AA candidate in Kilgore.

Sulzer/Lashaway also a pretty good match too.

Not too surpring in terms of outcomes though across the dual.

Given the fact that Herbert is a 2x NCAA finalist and has beaten Pucillo worse (11-5 at St Eds), I'd say there aren't many wrestlers in the country that can stay within a decision of Herbert--if he's close to his form from two seasons past. That's the question that has not yet been answered.

Welch does appear to have a ton of talent, but Kurt Kinser of Indiana (Big Ten 8th last year at 149) pinned Welch in 56 seconds, so I'm going to wait to annoint him as a super freshman. I agree with the sentiment that that is a solid job by Tice, however.
