Murphy's Law in full effect for Ohio State...
Pucillo out with ongoing ankle issue...Humphrey failed skin check...Rella lost by injury default...Gardner lost to unheralded opponent from Virginia Tech in OT (which has to hurt as he left Virginia Tech). Only winners for Ohio State in early action have been Triggas, Jags (by Tech fall over Neil Birt), Johnstone and Sponseller.

Yeah, tough 1 point loss for Gardner, but he won his next cons. match. We'll see how far he can climb back. Still, Nikko, Jags, Lance, Johnstone, Colt & Morrison all advanced in the championship brackets. Colt brings an interesting matchup with Luke Manual from Purdue, who beat him at the Big Tens last year. We'll see what a difference a year can make. I thought 157 is a really tough weight class, it will be a good test for Johnstone. If Rella is badly injured, would they bring Magrum out of redshirt?

How did Sponseller do last night? Did he beat Luke Manuel?

David Thompson beats David Craig of Lehigh 7-5 and then meets his high school teammate Zac Thomusseit in the next round. Zac beat David 3-1.

Palmer, Sponseller and Morrison in semis. Morrison beat Berhow of Minn 9-4.

Any word on Rella?

Hank,

Yes he was. Even more importantly, he (and David) are extremely nice kids -- and very, very smart -- both David and Zac want to get into medicine. Great pick-ups for both schools.

This tourney is a "coming out" for Spons as he's beaten several tough guys in a row--Glaser, Manuel and Dwyer. Most Ohio fans have long believed he's this good but it's the first time he's proven himself nationally in a major D1 event.

Nice win for Palmer over Ruschell of Wiscy.

Bucks have struggled in the cons. Johnstone won a few then lost and will go for 7th. Triggas is out; so's Gardner. Jags lost in OT to Minny's Thorn and was also eliminated. Bucks will have four placers with Morrison still waiting to compete in semis.

Sponseller is having a great tournament. Dwyer #4, Manual #6 ranked nationally. It's nice to see him win close matches; I read where he rode Dwyer the entire 2nd period!! I saw the Jaggers match on Flo against Jantzen; real close scramble in the 3rd. Looked like J had the reversal, but Janzen was hanging on to the foot & they didn't give the rev.?? Oh well, I'm not worried about J, we know what we got come March. And if Humphrey & Pucillo were in this, I'm sure there would be lots more team points. Even Gardner's losses were real close. But for right now, it would be sweet if Colt & Lance won tonight. Palmer's will be interesting, to see how he approaches Caldwell the 2nd time around.

Does anyone know what happened? Did he just get stuck in some funk like Metcalf? Maybe we'll have to wait to see it on FloWrestling.
