Discussion Topic: Ohio State v. Wisconsin - Live on BTN Sunday

It will be shown on the Big Ten Network at 1:00pm live. Maybe some of us in the northeast can meet somewhere and cheer the Bucks on together? Any thoughts?

I couldn't think of a better way of spending a Sunday, but it happens to be my wife's birthday and we have plans. I will watch somehow.

John: Take her out the night before to Olive Garden. It's the chance to hang out with a bunch of smelly, badly dressed guys at some public place and cheer for the Buckeyes.

I was about 2/3 of the way finished writing a long preview of this dual when I accidentally closed the window and lost it. I am very upset, and am not going to write it again.

The Matchups:

125: Nikko Triggas vs. Drew Hammen
133: Reece Humphrey vs. Tom Kelliher
141: J Jaggers vs. Zach Tanelli
149: Lance Palmer vs. Kyle Ruschell
157: Jason Johnstone vs. Ben Jordan
165: Colt Sponseller vs. Andrew Howe
174: Dave Rella vs. Travis Rutt
184: Mike Pucillo vs. Eric Bugenhagen
197: Jason Cook vs. Dallas Herbst
285: Corey Morrison vs. Kyle Massey

My Predictions:

125: Triggas MAJ Hammen (4-0)
Could be a pin

133: Humphrey PIN Kelliher (10-0)
Pin in the first 4 minutes

141: Tanelli dec. Jaggers (10-3)
A win for Jaggers would be huge going into the post season

149: Palmer dec. Ruschell (13-3)
I don't think Palmer will ever really be in danger.

157: Johnstone dec. Jordan (16-3)
But Jordan has wrestled real tough this year. It's pretty crazy that Ohio has 3 true freshmen (Jordan, Dong, Moore) that are wrestling very well at 157 this year. Strange that none of them are wrestling in Ohio.

165: Sponseller dec. Andrew Howe (19-3)
I take Sponseller by 2 in a pretty exciting, yet low scoring match.

174: Rella dec. Rutt (22-3)
Could be a major if he wrestles as well as he has been--but Rutt has done some relatively nice things this year.

184: Pucillo MAJ Bugenhagen (26-3)
Pucillo comes out strong after his match with Herbert. This could be ugly.

197: Herbst PIN Cook (26-9)
Herbst will be way too much...

285: Massey MAJ Morrison (26-12)
Earlier in the season, this would have been closer and Morrison might have pulled it off. However, giving up so much weight has worn down on Morrison, and he has struggled mightily against big heavies as of late. He could keep it to a decision.

Ohio State matches up very favorably against a tough Wisconsin team.

Key match for Jaggers, I believe with a win he gets seeded 2 in the big ten with Tsirtsis loss yesterday the only one that would be above him would be Russell

I wonder if they keep Palmer out? You could see at the end of the Illinois match, he was coming back to the center of the mat kinda wincing, but he finished out the match. If they have to err on the side of caution, by all means sit him out. He is too important to risk anything at this point in the season.

Ohio State should be able to sit Palmer for this match as well and still win comfortably. But I'd have thought the same thing about NW. Key for the Bucks will be to win at either 141 or 165 plus win big at 125, 133 and 184. Because Triggas is a pinner, I like him to get six for Ohio State. Rella needs to remain consistent at 174 as well.

Ohio State ran into trouble against NW because of no Palmer and giving up lots of bonus early.

How 141 gets seeded in the Big 10 and at NCAAs is anyone's guess. Thorn might be above Jaggers, too, since he has 2 wins over him, but Jaggers has the better conference record. I would definitely expect Tsirtsis to be ahead of him, though.

Good result, except for 165 of course.

One of the losses to Thorn was at Las Vegas, which I don't think is an official loss. Didn't Pucillo lose to Todd last year at Vegas, but they still listed Mike as undefeated at the Nationals? That would mean J has 1 win & 1 loss to Thorn.

that 165 from Wisconsin Andrew Howe is quite a true freshman huh ? he's from Indiana--- i saw him do very well, where else, in Fargo a couple years. Didnt realize he would be quite this good so soon.

Howe matched Sponseller at Colts own game, constant motion & action for 7 minutes, 3-2 but it was a great match !

Humphrey Greco skills starting to come into play lately, u always have to watch for the big throw.

when is the last time an Ohio st wrestler had such a trademark devastating move as Triggas' figure-4 on the head ?

Last year they didn't officially count Vegas because they didn't do skin checks at weigh ins--or they only did 1 skin check instead of 2, something to that nature. It will be counted this year.

Thanks for clearing that up, Ben. BTW did anyone else think the ref misses a pin in Humps match? Man, it seemed like the kid had to be flat more than a few times, imo.

Jack I think he missed it a few times due to not being in position.

Did Humphreys look like he was sick or something? I thought he was a step behind his normal self and when he walked off the mat, he looked as though he was going to go get sick.
