Discussion Topic: Records Question

After looking at the Perry and Mentor pairings, I'm perplexed at how a kid could be 44-4 or 46-2.

How can a kid get 48 matches in one season? I did not think a kid could have enough points for that many matches. Can some one wrestle six large tournaments and get in eight matches at each? I’m sure he did not have a ton of consolation bouts with only 4 losses.

This is a general question and not about any one particular kid..

One Day Pool Tournaments.

The highest amount of matches possible going into the sectional tournament is 68.

Six Two-Day Pool Tournaments (18 points) = 60 Matches
One One-Day Pool Tournament (2 points) = 5 Matches
Three Matches at the State Duals (0 points) = 3 Matches

Then you have 4+4+4 (12) for the sectional, district, and state tournaments.

The highest number of matches a wrestler can have during a season is 80.

Wow, that is a lot of matches. Is there a rule that says a high school wrestler can only have a certain number of matches per day. I thought it was 6 max at one point.

Dan,

If your math is correct by stating you can have 68 matches heading into sectionals then couldn't you end up with 86 matches total by losing in the first round of sectionals, districts, and state? That person could then come back and wrestle to third place to get 86.

Eric:
Yes, you are correct. If a wrestler loses his first round bout at the sectional, district and state tournaments and comes back through to place in the top six, he has a chance to wrestle a maximum of 86 matches.

Mark:
The maximum is five matches per day.
