Mitch now takes Miller down then cuts him 9-9. Mitch comes back to win 12-10 and just out conditions Miller at the end.

Taylor in quickly with a single and finishes.

This wil be the last year we get the pleasure of watching David Taylor here at the Schott. Taylor is probably the best wrestler I have ever seen wrestle and I have seen some great ones in my days.

Taylor is up 10-1 at the end of the first.

Any update on the Palmer match? Hearing rumors it was controversial. Any truth to this? By the way, this forum/site is the only way I get to keep up on the state tournament living out here in Cedar Rapids, IA. thanks to all who keep the info flowing. I appreciate it. I've been checking out Flowrestling to watch matches. Great stuff all around for those of us unable to attend the tourney.
Mike

Session II

Division III Notables -

We have a true team race in Division III this year as three teams are within 9 points of each other. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is up on top now with 48 points. Troy Christian took a blow in their quest to three-peat as state champions as returning state runner-up Jordan Thome was knocked out losing 8-6 in sudden victory to Dominic Prezzia of St. Clairsville. Troy Christian will have to be perfect from here on out in order to keep up their hopes of winning their 3rd state title.

The Monroeville Four continue to roll as each advanced to the semifinals this evening. Stieber, Stieber, Tessari and Phillips all continue their dominance on Ohio wrestlers. However Tessari had a close call winning 5-3 at the end to claim a victory. In order for Monroeville to win they must get bonus points in the semifinals and all have to win.

CVCA leads the pack with 5 semifinalists followed by Monroeville and Troy Christian with 4 a piece.

After the end of session II in Division III CVCA has 54 points followed by Troy Christian at 52 points.

DII Notables –
We have the exact opposite situation in Division II as St. Paris Graham the 2nd ranked team in the nation continues to impose its will upon everyone. Graham qualified 13 to state and so far has advanced 12 of their wrestlers to the semifinals. They are on pace to shatter their own points record from last year and could possibly beat the 66 year old record of 6 individual state champions in one tournament.

Graham is sitting at 114.5 points after the quarterfinal round. University School is a distant 2nd with 41.5 points.

Some big semifinal matches that will occur tonight

112 – Isaac Jordan (Graham) only a freshman will face off against DII state champion Ty Mitch (Aurora) in what will be a barnburner. Jordan won the previous meeting between these two wrestlers.

130 – Felipe Martinez (Graham) perhaps the best freshman in the country will face off against 2x state placer Josh Vaughn (DeSales).

DI Notables –
For the first time in 12 years we will have a true team race here in Division I, as St. Edwards 12 year stranglehold on Division I looks to be coming to an end. They took a blow in the quarterfinals with projected state champion Anthony Salupo lost to Scott Mattingly of Lake 6-5. Massillon Perry’s quest to win their first state title came crashing down when returning state champion Seth Horner was pinned by T.J. Rigel from Tecumseh. Rigel last year was 2nd at 145 but has been up and down this year however he was able to cradle Horner and secure the pin.

Wadsworth had quite a scare when former state champion Brad Squire was taken into OT by Dylan Zivcic of Mentor. Squire had to come back to win 6-4 keeping Wadsworth chances alive for a state title and their first since 1942. Wadsworth freshman Nick Tavenello won a thriller, getting the takedown as time expired to win 8-6 and advance to the semifinals tonight.

After the quarterfinal round Wadsworth and St. Eds look to be a dead tie. Both have advanced 4 wrestlers into the semifinals. Wadsworth however has more alive in the consolation rounds.

Notable Semifinal Matches -

112 – Gus Sako (St. Eds) vs. Kagan Squire (Wadsworth) this match will go a long way in determining the state title for the teams. Sako and Squire have split matches this year with Sako winning the last one.

140 – Collin Palmer (St. Eds) vs. Tommy Fehring (Glen Este) – Palmer will look to continue his run for his 4th state title this evening when he wrestles.

152 – Andrew Gasber (Madison) vs. Nick Sulzer – Former St. Ed teammates will face off in a battle for the finals. Gasber is 42-0 but Sulzer has been red hot lately and ready for the run at his first state title after being 3rd and 2nd the past two years.

285 – James Meder (Valley Forge) vs. Ben Buzzelli (Wadsworth) will square off as both are returning state placers. Buzzelli needs to win this in order for Wadsworth to knock off St. Eds for the team title.

285 – Jeremy Johnson (Brecksville) vs. Adam Walls (Beavercreek) look to advance to the state finals with a victory tonight. Walls is a three-time state placer where as Johnson is nationally ranked this year after winning Ironman and placing at Beast.

Graham might wind up with 6, or more, champs but to us "old timers" they won't have a record now that there are 3 divisions and not the 1 that the record was set in.
