Wow, talk about a second chance! I thought maybe Johnstone had a decent chance, but I didn't think Corey or Nikko did. Maybe Nikko's wins over Butrell & Watts helped. Who decides these wildcards?

Remember that Corey and Nikko were wrestlers that got their weight qualification spots from the B10. Say what you may about their respective seasons.

I'm happy for the Buckeyes and all three wrestlers. It's an odd system where you fail to place at your qualifier yet qualify. But it's new and supposed to make sure that the best wrestlers make the tourney. Triggas, Johnstone and Morrison all proved this season that they're among the top 30 at their wts. Second chances can be a great motivator. Maybe two weeks from now we'll be talking about the points these wrestlers scored at nationals and how important they were to a great Buckeyes performance.

I'm glad Johnstone and Morrison got their bids, I think they have the quality wins to justify them. I don't think Triggas does, though. He hasn't beaten a top 20 guy all year.

Ben: What's top 20? I understand your point but rankings are always in flux. As an example, Mike Watts was ranked most of the season and had a few quality wins. Nikko pinned him in the dual. Then Watts slipped out of top 20. At that time it was a win over a top 20 guy.

It's hard to like this system. I encourage those interested to go to buckeyewrestling.com (a fantastic website for college wrestling fans esp. Buckeye fans) and listen to what J. Robinson has to say on the topic.

Incidentally, the ACC more than doubled their qualifiers at the expense of the EWL (which deserved the cuts) and the PAC 10. It's very difficult to see understand why the ACC deserved such a hefty increase.
