Discussion Topic: The Legs: Do you hook the near leg or the far leg?
Dan Cosimi added to this discussion on March 30, 2009
When running "the legs" I've seen some wrestlers hook the near leg and some hook the far leg.
I didn't learn to throw a leg in until my senior year and after that I always used a spiral or a scramble to hook the far leg.
What did you guys do and what setups did you use?

To get one leg in you could spiral on to your hip and slide the low leg in, when the guy bases up then you have one in (cross body ride), then block the arms and work the far one in if you'd like.
Can you tell I miss coaching

Well, since I was taller than most of my opponents, using legs was my ride of choice. I used two different techniques, depending on the situation. Off the whistle, I tended to chop the near arm, step up and slide the leg in on the same side. After a TD, I would typically try to get my opponent on his butt with my feet under his knees, then roll him back to his base. As soon as he rolled, to whichever side I was moving him, I would sink the near side leg in.

Even safer is spiral except take your top arm and go cross coller bone and use your elbow to block his near arm from coming down, then throw in the near leg. this way you are never on your hip. Kent State uses this ride a ton.
