"only 4 don't have an OH, PA, or NJ boy #1"

Ohio alot of # 1s this year but PA more kids ranked. i coined phrase many years ago, Ohio, PA and NJ connecting states is " The Wrestling Belt".

Example 28 of the 80 Div I AAs this year were from those 3 states, thats 35 %. Large but not huge states with combined population less than California's and less than Texas/Florida combined. The "Wrestling Belt", its real, it has the tradition and the talent, enjoy it..

At 171 how is Philips ranked ahead of Ruth? I like your rankings, and know how hard that other website gives you, but come on that one is ridiculous.

i guess we don't think its "ridiculous" -- Ruth edged Phillips 3-2 in Ironman quarters, but Ruth then lost in first round by pin 2 weeks later at the Beast. Ruth no recent fargo on his resume-- Phillips 2X cadet fr champ, in fact barely even scored on in 2 years.

Ruth pinned in first round at Beast, should we pretend that doesnt count ? Ruth in PA never higher than 4th at state, should we pretend he has been PA state champ ?? -- it all counts, a ranking is not just head to head.

Ruth a big talent i agree, but consistency has been a problem for him thrughout career.

Bob come on that was a fluke pin, its not like he was losing and then got pinned he was on his way to a tech. He WOULD have won the Beast. He def should be ahead of Philips. This def looks like a homer ranking, I am sorry Bob, like I said I think for the most part you do a great job and you are always available for comments and I hate the way that other website treats you. Just my two cents.

-----------------------------------------

knock it off, cut the insults, u don't know me---- fact is editor Ron Good of Oklahoma and i try to be fair to everyone and it aint easy.

of course u entitled to your opinion, rankings not an exact science, we aren't always right -- but we like Phillips # 1 because of his overall career. If u saw the match, Phillips took most of the shots, was more aggressive, but Ruth was athletic enough to scramble away and he made one 3rd period tkdwn stand up-- Ruth deserved to win but it wasnt conclusive at all, 3-2.

and why did Ruth take 4th and 5th in PA states, why not 3rd ?? after losing to Q Wright which is no disgrace, why couldnt he take 3rd his last 2 years in PA ?

u say Ruth WOULD have won the Beast, that assumption can certainly be challenged. Mike Evans who did win 171 at the Beast is awfully good himself, he was undefeated until suspended for dumb conduct prior to states and Evans won Beast finals, 12-2.

**** i should have said Mike Evans undefeated at 171, he did move up twice to met AWN #6 Tony Dellago at 189 and he split with Dellago. So Evans has a loss. Evans awfully good, only a junior too.

Bob, let's not go there I did not insult you. You make it very hard to have a constructive conversation with you if you are going to act this sensitive to a post about a ranking that I just said that I think is a homer ranking. I didn't say F U Bob, insult your intelligence or call you out of your name. So calm down Bob, I will leave it at that because I don't want you to leave this website thinking that I maybe ganging up on you. But I will leave it like this, you keep saying that he took 3rd or 4th in PA AAA states like it is some virus, just remember A Alton was not a PA state champ when he beat a 3x Ohio Champ! PA AAA is BEAST!

in my business being called a "homer" is a big insult. And i never have been, ive made mistakes but not from being a homer.

U post, "you keep saying that he took 3rd or 4th in PA AAA states like it is some virus, just remember A Alton was not a PA state champ when he beat a 3x Ohio Champ! PA AAA is BEAST!"

No Ruth didnt take 3rd & 4th, he took 4th & 5th which means he lost in the wrestlebacks too. No 1 is a big deal , have to look at every angle.

thats WHY we brought the Alton's in to the Ironman, to possibly beat the likes of Palmer and whoever was in their wt classes. When a Phillips and a L Stieber takes their only high school loss in the Ironman, we like that level of competition. We don't protect our Ohio stars, we specifically bring guys in who can beat them. Thats what makes Ironman special.

The Altons both won fargo Jr national freestyle titles last summer , so they werent underdogs-- i thought whichever one faced Collin Palmer would have a good chance to win. i wasnt surprised at all.
