How well will Stieber perform at 121? With only 18 guys in the bracket, no qualifying tourney, does that help him or hurt him?

Scott-

I foresee Stieber placing top 6. He will do well against the college guys while Simmons and Felix probably have too much experience for him. From past national tournaments, a high school phenom will often place at Senior Nationals in the lightest weight division. Knocking off Simmons or Felix would be highly unlikely but remotely possible.

Rex, having been there, done that, who do you see making a statement this weekend? Does Herbert begin his climb or can Hrovat hold him (and everyone else) off? Do the Paulson's assert themselves as our top middleweights? In a relatively inexperienced 96kg, can Bergman make a run?

Anyone's opinion would be outstanding.

I don't follow it as closely as I once did.

That being said,

I expect Herbert to be in the finals. He took an Olympic redshirt and talks passionately about being an Olympian in every interview that he gives. He trains with Hrovat which actually benefits the younger guy.

Shawn Bunch as champion. He is ultra athletic. He has an excellent training situation with the right coaches and partners.

J.D. definitely could win if he is mentally and physically ready. I have not been around the room to make an educated guess. It is a relatively inexperienced weight class with lots of opportunity to make things happen quickly. I would love to see Tommy Rowlands lean out and take over the position with smart periodic training.

Bob,

There is an article about Harry's coming out of retirement here on the CVCA Wrestling site...

I'm glad Harry decided to go 163 lbs. instead of having to cut to 145.5. That must have been brutal.

Harry Lester took out Deitchler 5-0, 5-1, and he's pretty well dominated the rest of his competition.

I guess 163 is agreeing with Harry. I'm glad youtube caught the match, I was watching on LSV internet feed, but they only cover 2 mats, and that wasn't one of them. I did see his second match. He is a "man among boys". I hope to catch the finals tonight on LSV.
