Discussion Topic: What programs are on the rise and will surprise people in 2009-2010?

What wrestling programs are going to surprise people this year?

Each year it seems like someone new is showing up on the wrestling radar that people may not think are normally wrestling schools. What are some teams to watch that people may not know about?

Last year in southeast Ohio, Athens had a good season and suprised some people by winning the southeast Division 2 sectional.

I was also surprised by Toledo Central Catholic's fourth place finish at the state tournament in Division 2 and Bellaire finishing seventh in Division 3.

Let's hear everyone's thoughts.

CVCA's team took second in the Community division at Disney. With only two guys on their team that were not from CVCA and one graduating senior, I think they're challenging for a top 2 spot in Division 3. The Disney team was loaded with incoming freshmen and most of them had outstanding records in Florida.

CVCA came a lot closer to winning a state title this past year than anyone expected. In fact, I think they went into either the third day or the finals with the lead over Monroeville and Troy Christian. The Royals are an excellent team with great coaches. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they made another run for a title.

Greenville in southwest Ohio is another team to look at. They were second at the district to Graham and return a lot of their state qualifiers.

Another team to watch from the southeast in Division 3 is Nelsonville-York. They return their state placers and have a few underclassman coming in that will help.

The Royals were in the lead several times throughout the course of the tournament. However, holding such a slim lead over a team with their only four very heavily favored guys in the finals wasn't enough.
