Buckeyewrestling.com has a bunch of great new info including video interviews with Tony Jameson, Nick Heflin and Nikko Triggas. In addition, the Bucks have four more announced recruits: Kevin Drake, Mike Fee, Peter Capone and Colton Bowers.

Drake was 4th @ state for Upper Arlington. Fee was a state runnerup from Lake Catholic. Both project in the 141-157 range.

Colton Bowers was 5th and 2nd at 189. He offers an immediate boost at 197 where Ohio State had lost both Weakley and Garder.

Peter Capone is an intriguing prospect. A 2008 NY state champ, he was accepted at the Naval Academy. He instead decided to enroll and wrestle at Ohio State. His dad and uncle were both college standouts. He also projects to the 184-197 range.

I'm very impressed with how the Buckeyes have continued to add depth to their roster. These four add immediate help to the middle and upperwts.

Video interview with Jameson is worth a look. He looks so anxious to get back to competition that he's almost jumping out of his skin. I know the staff still thinks he has a lot to offer the squad.

Capone is an interesting one that could contribute. Probably will be wrestling off Magrum for the starting role at 197.

If healthy and able to find consistency, Bowers can do something long term. Always hard to find quality for the 197 weight class.

To be honest, I see Drake and Fee as depth/practice room types.

Josh: Agree with your assessments.

But look at what a good job Ryan does in adding depth to each recruiting class. And every now and then one of these "chip-in" types will turn out to be a diamond.

Mhmm... can't find one without trying. Who thought Jacob Ison would turn into what he has.

Upper Arlington High School's Kevin Drake took an outstanding senior-season record of 52-0 into the Division 1 state semifinals at 145 pounds. Drake earned his first All-Ohio honor by finishing in fourth place. He was also the champion at the Hilliard Darby district, qualifying for the state tournament for the third time in his career.

2009 OHSAA State Tournament
Championship Eighthfinal: W dec. Nate Ball (Wadsworth) 5-3 OT
Championship Quarterfinal: W dec. Trevor Nickolai (Piqua) 6-4 OT
Championship Semifinal: L md. T.J. Rigel (New Carlisle Tecumseh) 19-8
Consolation Semifinal: W dec. Jerrel Valliant (Sandusky) 3-2
Third Place Final: L md. Pierce Harger (Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller) 12-0

** Drake's opening-round victory over Wadsworth sophomore Nate Ball was a big one. Ball won 40 matches on the Grizzlies' grueling schedule including a 1-2 finish at the state tournament. His seventh-place finish at the Ironman was very impressive. Remember, that was only the first tournament of his second year in high school.

** A bit of revenge went Drake's way in his quarterfinal victory over Piqua senior Trevor Nickolai. They met in the first round of the state tournament as sophomores with Nickolai winning an 8-6 decision. Nickolai was also a three-time state qualifier who earned his first All-Ohio honor this year by finishing in eighth place.

** In the match before he faced Drake, Tecumseh senior T.J. Rigel used his trademark cradle to catch and pin defending state champion and four-time All-Ohioan Seth Horner in the quarterfinals. Rigel seemed to be "on fire" and his match against Drake only reinforced that. Rigel was a state finalist the previous year as well, dropping an 8-4 decision to four-time state champion Tony Jameson.

** On paper, Drake's best win of this tournament was over two-time All-Ohioan Jerrel Valliant in the consolation semifinals. Valliant, a junior from Sandusky, went on to defeat the aforementioned Horner 3-2 for fifth place. Valliant finished in sixth place at this weight class last year.

** In the third place final, Drake faced Pierce Harger, a highly-credentialed junior from Archbishop Moeller. To go along with this third place finish, Harger also placed sixth at 112 pounds as a freshman and seventh at 125 pounds as a sophomore. The three-time All-Ohioan has busy off-seasons. He became a rare cadet double All-American by placing at the freestyle and Greco-Roman national championships last summer. He went undefeated at the AAU National Duals earlier this summer and was also part of the national championship Team Ohio squad that won the USAW National Duals in freestyle.

Dan: And he led the Golden Bear lacrosse team to a runner-up finish this year, and, if I'm not mistaken, a state championship last year. He's a heck of an athlete, heck of a kid.

Well a championship-worthy team always has depth, so these guys are welcome. This makes me wonder now if we will see Cody stay at 197 for the rest of his stay here at Ohio State or if he will in fact go down to 184 once Mike Pucillo completes his senior year. If he does go down, that will leave Stolarsky, Bowers, and Capone to keep 197 going unless we bring in a hammer for 197.

Peter Capone a good pickup by Ohio St--- at 152 two yrs ago was NY state champ. Went to Navy prep. Dad was NCAA finalist for Hofstra. Beat huge names like Kistler, Chaparelli.

Has lots of potential. Will be 184.

AWN recruiting class rankings will be out August issue. AWN editor Ron Good waits until the smoke clears, holds off until all transfers & commits are known for sure.

Next year either Penn st or Ohio st will likely be the # 1 class--- both have alot of money to spend on November signing and alot of top talent to choose from in their areas of the nation. .

As you've said before Bob, one of these teams is going to bring the NCAA title back East. If the Buckeyes can get that talent lined up and Penn State can actually coach up their kids towards the latter part of the season, it'll happen.

Nicholas,
yep -- there appears to be a "power shift" eastward: Ohio St, Penn St, Minnesota, Michigan, Cornell-- a rejuvinated Lehigh under coach Santoro-- and Virginia & Old Dominion are making some noise too in recruiting the last couple years.

Edinboro, illinois, Wisconsin & Maryland were ALL top 10 in NCAA last season, how many realize that !? Add in Northwestern, C Michigan and Kent St too. The east is growling and i think it will last a long time. Enjoy !!

Central Michigan and Wisconsin especially will be very tough again next year, too. Maryland brings a lot back as well, and we have discussed Kent on this site, so I think those teams are in good shape. Wisconsin will be exciting, with Graff and Branvolt coming off of redshirts and the young talent in Howe and Jordan.

Some video on Capone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ9LRxzsS6o

This was 2 years ago and he was a 152. Capone was 20-2 last year at 174/184. He looks like an animal on top.
