Discussion Topic: Palmer's "Go to takedown"
Scott Nicola added to this discussion on July 16, 2007

Many posters have cited the need for Lance Palmer to develop that one "go to takedown" in order to beat guys like Schlatter and Metcalf and win a national title. I'm almost certain the the excellent coaching staff at tOSU has recognized this too and are working with Lance to improve in this area. The question is what will be Lance's bread adn butter on his feet. I for one believe that Palmer will continue to develope his underhook series. Rowlands and Rosselli were both extremely adept at creating offense from this position and have a wealth of knowlege on how to teach it. Numerous times last year I saw Lance hit his whipover/hiptoss type move from and underhook but very seldom did he use this to set up his leg attacks. I would love to see Lance attacking the single leg on his underhook side, picking the far knee, or hitting a double knee drop (ala Tommy). I think developing these dimensions would make his upper body stuff even more dangerous b/c opponents have a multitude of other things to worry about. I will close by saying that Coach Ryan and the guys know a heckuva lot more about coaching wrestling than I do and I'm excited to see how Lance develops under their tutelage.
