Ohio University Intrasquad Scrimmage

Green v. White
125: Mike Wilson v. Heath Allen
133: Quentin Keyes v. Seth Morton
141: Germane Lindsey v. Mike Fennell
149: Clay Tucker v. Kevin Christensen
157: Kent Smith v. Tommy Weinkam
165: Jake Ison v. Anthony Ciraky
174: Ryan Knapp v. Nick Purdue
184: Antione Love v. Erik Schuth
197: Chris Iammarino v. Dan Herres
285: Jason Marshall v. Zach Starr

Notes
- Kent Smith defeated NCAA qualifier Jake Freirichs in a scrimmage bout, but that is far from telling as to who will be starter there. I was told that Freirichs had an injury, but I was told the same about Smith, so take that for what it is.
- 165 will be a great bout. Ison won a preliminary bout 6-2 with a late takedown. Ciraky, a redshirt freshman, could close the gap on Ison, who won over 30 matches starting here last year.
- The 174 pound wrestle-off between redshirt senior Ryan Knapp and true freshman Nick Purdue will be interesting for more than just the age difference. Purdue is very talented despite his lack of experience. If he wins, they will discuss the possibility of wrestling him as opposed to a likely redshirt.
- True freshman Matt Reedy looks tough in the room and will redshirt behind Clay Tucker at 149 pounds.
- True freshman Justin Powell will be in the mix with Iammarino and Herres for the starting spot at 197 pounds.
- True freshman Andy Hartshorn is having his knee scoped, so the Bobcats' next heaviest wrestler, Starr (who is more likely to be at 197 pounds) will wrestle Jason Marshall.
- Familiar names such as Metcalf, Jackson, Madsen, Reichard, and Tymosczcuk are no longer on the Bobcats' roster. Apparently they have moved on from the sport.

Well, that's a coaches worst nightmare when you get an unexpected result like the Bobcats got at 157. Sometimes the toughest guys to beat are the ones that know you best. I really can't see OU not starting a healthy Freirichs given how credibly he's performed.

Ciraky was the more storied high school performer but I can't imagine Ison not being the starter. Ison had an excellent true frosh season and has to be considered the best collegiate 165 pounder in Ohio at the moment.

Dan - thanks, that was some great insider info.

Losing Jackson and Madsen is tough. They were both solid, while not spectacular, D1 wrestlers. The two who replace them, Keyes and Lindsey presumably, are both very talented but very inexperienced.

Hank - you make a good point. Sometimes its very tough to beat the guy who you wrestle every day in the room, even when the two in question would have far different results against common opponents.

Having said that, the great thing about wrestling is you have to earn it, right? Sounds like Smith used his red shirt year well and wants to wrestle. Competition in the room can only help.

This incoming freshman class is solid, but the key will be talent retention.

I just want to make it clear that Caleb Metcalf's wrestling career was cut short due to a very serious neck injury.
