Looking at the registrants, there's a very strong chance this match happens in the finals. Dong is redshirting this year, but if he were wrestling they would both be top 5-ish guys. Big match--Taylor's first big test that hasn't been a teammate.

When is this happening? If I'm free, I'll travel the 6 hours to see and tape it.

It'll be great to see two Ohio stars face off, particularlly a Central Ohio guy, but, and I may be alone on this one, I see this as a pretty straight forward win for David Taylor. It's tough for me to type, because you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Jessie Dong fan than me...But Taylor is just THAT GOOD. I don't see bonus, but I think Taylor will control the bout and win by a comfortable margin.

This has to be the largest open tournament ever. I just looked at the number of wrestlers per weight class and MY GOODNESS there are a lot of people.
Are they allowing walk-ins? Or is it all pre-registration? ;-)

Lots of Ohio talent...Wukie, Hightower, Dong, Taylor, Cubberly all in that 157-pound bracket.

Are you considering making the 6-hour drive, video taping, AND wrestling in the event?!?!?! Talk about dedicated to the sport!

Don't you know... Don't you know...
This past Sunday, after returning home from helping out at a youth tournament, my 6 year old looked at me and asked, "Dad, do you have a tournament next Sunday?" Upon my answer of no, he replied, "Can we play together then?"
I forgot about that until after practice today. I retract my bid to drive out. Also my bid to tape. I do not, however, retract my enthusiasm for this sport.
6 year old - 1, 6 hour drive to PA - 0
Which reminded me of the JJ Huddle post I saw. Remember the story that went, "Dad how much do you earn an hour?" Dad responded $45 an hour. The kid left, broke his piggy bank and counted his change. He returned to his father and said, "Dad, can I borrow $35?" The dad inquired as to why... The boy stated, because then I'll have $45 and you can play with me for an hour.
I choose not to become that guy.
...but I still heart me some Ben Golden!

The day my daughter was born I stopped being a paid assistant coach and started being a volunteer coach. That way I can kind of come and go as I please and if I need to take a few days off here and there I can. The job of head coach in particular, takes so much time and energy to do right, that I don't understand how men with families do are able to do it. I know I couldn't.

Unfortunately, the minimum requirement for entering the tournament is being a HS district qualifier. As Mark will tell you...he was a 4 time HS sectional qualifier. ;) You hadn't said it for a while Mark. I thought it was about time!
