Discussion Topic: Ohio Athletic Committee Newsletter part 1
Jude Roth added to this discussion on November 16, 2007

This OAC Newsletter is the third in a series of newsletters that will go out to those interested in keeping up with what the Ohio Athletic Committee has in store for the 2008 season. It is designed to keep you informed and to spark conversation about Ohio wrestling. There will be more newsletters to follow, periodically throughout the year. We invite you to log on to the OAC web site and send in suggestions and comments via a link provided. Please keep in mind that it is not practical to believe that everything suggested will be acted upon but it does give us insight to what the general wrestling community would like to see for Ohio wrestling.

The OAC has reduced the admission prices for the 2008 Grade School and Jr. High State Tournaments. The new admission prices will have a Senior Citizen and Student price while maintaining no charge for pre-school and under. The new prices will be posted on the web site soon.

There are several new items in the works that we are unable to reveal at this time but will be announced in the OAC Newsletters over the next few weeks and through our web site. Be sure to check the web site out for the latest announcements.

The OAC web site is now open and updated. The entry/registration sections of the site will open within the next couple of weeks. You can view this year’s information at www.ohioathletics.com.

There are some new features to the web site at http://www.ohioathletics.com/:
-A Coach’s Directory page has been added. There are nearly 800 coaches listed. All coaches from any level can go to the coach’s directory page and register their contact information. This will be very helpful in scheduling events or just to get in touch with each other.
-A link has been added for you to send in suggestions or comments. You can click on To help OAC events grow and improve click here for constructive comments. From here you can send in suggestions or comments for any of our events. Your input is valuable.
-We have created a Youth Tournament page. You may post your tournament on the calendar for everyone to view. You can also include a flyer or entry form that may be downloaded. There is no charge for this and it will help you get the word out about your event. Our web site receives an unbelievable amount of traffic and we are excited to have the opportunity to help you promote and market your tournament.
-There is a Jr. High and High School Tournament page added. You may post your tournament along with what teams are participating. This helps to advertise your event and also assists coaches when they are searching for a tournament for their teams to enter.
-There has also been a Wrestling Camp page added. Anyone hosting a wrestling camp can post their information in this section. There will however, be a small fee associated with posting the camps.

-If anyone would like to be the lead group in any new sport or event that is listed on http://www.ohioathletics.com/) please contact me. We welcome new ideas and it is a good fundraiser for your program.

The Ohio School of Wrestling (OSW) is looking for host locations for the 2008 summer classes. If you would like the OSW to come to your school please contact me (JudeRoth@OhioAthletics.com). You will receive 10.00 per entry.
Each wrestler that enters an OAC Grade School District Tournament will receive a credit of 30.00 (cost of their district entry) Jr. High District entrants receive 32.00 credit and High School Non-Divisional State entrants receive 20.00 credit toward the camp registration.
The OSW is a unique organization designed by Ohio wrestlers and is all about helping Ohio wrestlers on all levels. All of our instructors are former Ohio high school wrestlers who have had tremendous wrestling careers. By hiring only Ohio wrestlers we help them earn money as they get ready to head off to college to continue their wrestling careers. It also allows the instructors to give back to the sport and the Ohio wrestling community that has been so good to them. Current Ohio high school, Jr. High and Youth wrestlers benefit by learning from the best in the State and some of the top wrestlers in the country.

The format for the schools is as follows:

-The OSW has 4 sets of instructors (1 or 2 Ohio graduating seniors with 1 or 2 College/former Ohio high school wrestlers).
-The OSW secures 4 schools that are located within 1 hour of one and other, to serve as host facilities.

-Each OSW school begins on a Monday and ends on Thursday (4 days of school)

-The instructors will rotate each day so that each set of instructors will spend one day with each of the classes.
