Discussion Topic: Kent's Frosh
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on August 27, 2011

Looking at their roster, I see the following wrestlers listed as true frosh.

125: Del Vinas (twnsbrg)
125/33 Alfredo Gray (wdsworth)
133: Kyle Bauer (wheeling Park, WVA)
141: Nate Hile (lexington)
149: Nick Carr (S. Fayette, Pa)
149: Jacob Schultz (Lewistown, Pa)
149/157: Ian Miller (Oak Harbor)
157: Clay Wenger (Wdswrth)
157/165: Tyler Buckwalter (Mill Hall, Pa)
165: Tyler Gargano (Hermitage, Pa)
184/197: Cole Baxter (Butler, Pa)
184/197: Nick Brown (Gahanna Lincln)
197: Irayel Williams (Rhodes)

A few things leap out--the number of Pa kids now on the roster as well as the sheer number of true frosh. Curious if anyone can offer some info on who some of these kids are and who might be "diamonds in the rough."

Realistically speaking, Bauer, Carr, and Miller are the ones Kent is expecting the most production from -- they're the top three kids in that class. If those three don't contribute for multiple years, then Kent didn't get the job done in terms of identifying and developing kids.

Everyone else falls into the crapshoot category. Success as a program will be determined if they can get two (or more of them) to contribute for multiple years.

I'd point to Irayel Williams as the one that Kent probably hopes for the most to pan out because 197 is a hard weight to fill. Though he's more of an upside kid.

Baxter and Wenger probably have the strongest high school background of those outside the first three.

del vinas is a stud...and if he decides to make a full run of college wrestling, he could be a lifer at 125...built like a freight train, and flexible as heck...placed as a senior, and was a match away from qualifying both soph/jun years.

with some time in the room with that coaching staff, and workign with Bob in the strength/conditioning area there, he could be fun to watch, and surprise some folks...

149: Nick Carr (S. Fayette, Pa). State champ as a junior, 2nd as soph., 3rd as Sr.

if he can keep head on straight should be able to win matches at Nationals some day.

Del vinas is a late starter which should leave alot in the tank for him to excel in college - I think he has huge upside

how late a starter could Nick Carr be? state runnerup in PA as a soph.

Nick Carr no relation to the famed Carr family of PA, however he looks like a potentially good recruit, maybe Kent States best recruit behind Ian Miller?

Hank: Nick Brown is a Gahanna Lincoln grad. He had some excellent wins over quality opponents during his junior and senior years.

Tall and lanky kid; with a low single. BIG frame. I think he ended with a knee injury this past year. I know he wrestled at FloNationals. Not sure how he ended up.

Personal opinion...his better days are ahead of him.

The pleasing of the palate is NOT the problem with hot peppers. It is the ... The ... How should I say this... It's the "burning ring of fire" the next day, if you know what I mean.

But, this new knowledge does excite the inquisitive side of me. I think I might have to head up, if nothing more than, because @BobP suggested it!!!

I just read online that Jamie Clark is transferring from Illinois to KSU. Has this been in the works or public knowledge for a while???

The article said he'll have three years of eligibility left and will most likely go at 141.

ps: I got that from twitter.
