Condensed schedule this year.

Sat/Sunday (7-21 and 7-22) - Cadet Greco
Sunday/Monday (7-22 and 7-23) - Junior Greco
Tuesday/Wed (7-24 and 7-25) - Cadet Free
Wed/Thursday (7-25 and 7-26) - Junior Free

Greco entry lists are up on TrackWrestling.

Ohio's Greco teams are pretty thin on talent. Just on quick look, I see few "stars"

Cadet: Clark @ 105 is probably about it for a sure fire AA

Junior: Taylor @ 105 is a prohibitive favorite, and then you have to go up to 152 in Eric Cubberly for a bona fide AA candidate, and after that to 285 for Hiles and Barlow. Yes, Speelman is a returning AA - he'll be at 140 - but it's hard to see things going that right for him again, though he can be a nuisance opponent. Scales - returning Cadet AA - is a darkhorse at 215 as well.

And of course 152 and 285 are probably the deepest two weights on the JN GR side.

Freestyle weights/entries are up on TrackWrestling.

Quick look at them show that there are some absolute landmine-filled weight classes out there. These are not for the meek and marginal quality.

Thanks for the breakdowns, Josh.

Good luck to our guys out in Fargo!

As day one continues on in Cadet GR, things are going about as expected for the Ohio team here - which was for it to be a struggle.

Summarizing those still alive for Ohio:
105- Jamie Clark (5-0), clinched AA status
130- Pierce Harger 4-1
145- Taylor Smith 2-1 (with bye already)
160- Nate Brubaker 3-1
215- Dan Demick 2-1
285- Billy Vaughan 3-0, Zach Stocum 2-1

Clark and Stocum take 5th respectively - CN GR.

Junior GR has started, should be a similar trend - not an overwhelming level of success. However, I would think the Juniors are going to do slightly better. Five AA's would be a reasonably good number.

Those remaining afloat
105- David Taylor
140- Josh Speelman
145- Justin Yetzer
152- Eric Cubberly
215- Orlando Scales, Oney Snyder, Joe Whithead, David Schlarb, and Jim Nemunaitis
285- Brendan Barlow, John Hiles

And that is how Junior GR ends for Sunday night.

The five number is going to be rather tough to hit. Lots of hits taken for Ohio today in JN GR, though those haven't been unexpected - many people went, but not as many with viable AA expectations.

Taylor will AA
Speelman is going to have to beat Clemente, or get a ton things going his way - and Clemente will be tough opponent for him (odds 35-65).
Yetzer has Dickey next round, both kids are 4-1. Dickey is the most favorable of the opponents he could have, however it's hard to say how they match up. Assuming likely outcomes, Yetzer would be favored to AA on a win. Odds here are 40-60.
Cubberly has a tough next match vs the undefeated Kaylor, who has a couple good wins already. Cubberly lost to Meza already by fall, which seems to be the bane of his Greco existence. If Cubberly could poach victory and defending champion Drendel beats Meza, Cubberly would AA because of draw. I would say odds are 45-55.

With double digit kids left at 215 and 285, it's really hard to book odds for them.
Scales suffered a bad loss already, which puts him in a precarious position. Whitehead also has a loss. Snyder is without a loss and could get that bye to cycle favorably for him if he can get another win in his next two rounds. If Nemunaitis can buy another win or two (he's already lost to Mahan), he can hopefully get the bye to cycle in his favor. I would say getting one AA at 215 is 50-50.
Barlow has the very tough Disney KS this round. His pool is thinner than the other one. This is the key match for him imo. Hiles has a much deeper pool, so it's going to depend on how it cycles out. He just needs to get expected wins and probably one-to-three tossups. Odds on one AA 70-30, two AA 40-60.

Josh - are you "Bucksman" by chance?

Thanks for the info. I look over the freestyle roster and think it looks very solid, hopefully Ohio's freestyle results will be exponentially better.

Ethan - yes.

Ohio AA's - as DC covered - congrats to Taylor, Scales, Snyder, and Hiles.
Scales and Snyder capitalized off what I thought was a thin side of an overall thin weight, and Hiles capitalized with two quality wins and catching the better part of the loaded side.

Barlow was snakebit. He beat the kid who finished 4th in the pool - Disney, but didn't get enough match points. Similar thing happened to Harris last year in FS.

Yetzer almost backed in losing a close one to Dickey, and Cubberly was unlucky losing a very close three period match as well.

What hurts Cubberly here like it has in the past is getting caught and pinned. Stevens did this to him I believe 2 years ago when we was trailing to win the match.

Taylor wins over Furtrell in 3 periods.

Nice to see 2 SW Ohio guys obtaining AA status with Snyder and Scales. These two both could wrestle each other next year at SWOWCA which could be a great match to watch.

Stevens caught him in Greco. Gasber caught him in Free. Those both were two years ago.
Then at the Top Gun in '06, Cubberly was caught by Dukes in the final as well.

I don't know if the Meza pin was a "catch" or if it was legit.
