Over his 8 seasons:
6 National Champs
5 NCAA Runnersup
25 AA's
7 Top Ten Finishes at Nationals
2 NCAA Runnerup Finishes
These are easily the best numbers in Ohio State history over any eight year period. Russ Hellickson, who was unquestionably the second best coach in Ohio State history, had 3 Top Ten finishes at NCAA's in his first 7 seasons (and then the bottom fell out for awhile).
One other thing to note: Hellickson and Ryan both share a knack for getting wrestlers into the finals. Hellickson coached 7 NCAA Champs and 4 Runnersup in 20 years so he averaged a finalist every two seasons. Ryan is currently averaging 1.375 finalists per season. Hellickson averaged 2 AA per year which was much better than his predecessors. Ryan has averaged 3 per season.

If they hit a rough spot mid-season next year.... No asking if it's time for a change!

i would think no one in their right mind would ask for "change"-- Ryan taking ohio st to a higher level, no doubt, we just don't know how high the level yet?
Tom has admited to me ohio st made a number of recruiting mistakes in recent years, but still the overall results have been good and hopefully lessons learned. ..s/BobP
