Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but I saw a tweet that Karageorge lost his black stripe this week playing football for the buckeyes. Did anyone else realize he was playing football? He seems to be a hard worker and man who loves competition. Best of luck. It would be nice to see him playing on Saturdays. I hope he continues to wrestle in his last year of eligibility.

KK should be team captain for football and wrestling. I love his mentality.

What's a "black stripe?"

Quote from Hank Kornblut's post:

"

A 'black stripe' is a piece of black tape that is placed on the center-line of the OSU helmet, from front to back, for new freshman on the OSU football team.

By acknowledging the removal of the stripe, the coach is signifying that the player is progressing in physical, competitive, and mental maturity. There is more to it than 'freakish' physicality. They take into affect how the player learns the playbook, how he handles his course work, and how he manages his approach and outlook towards being a productive piece of the OSU football team and meets all of his responsibilities.

Some highly recruited players haven't received that until after a full season. It means that he is now a part of the football team and can contribute to the success of the team on the football field on Saturdays.

Pat: excellent description.

I always thought of it as I think of promotions of belts in the Martial Arts. A sign of growth that is recognized by those in charge.
