I've been reading themat.com forum for many years, starting back when JTTS was around and DF was known as Delfino. However, I never registered on the forum so I have never posted there.

I read with interest this year's "Last Man Standing" thread and the wrestlers that posters have entered in the contest. Many have picked Kyle Snyder, who is a terrific wrestler. However, since one of Snyder's early matches is J'Den Cox, that seems like a bit of a tactical error.

If one wants to actually win the contest, wouldn't it make sense to do the following:
(1) make a list of all the round of 12 losers from the last few years
(2) delete those on the list who have graduated or were AA's in an earlier year
(3) From the remaining list, examine each wrestler's team schedule to see which two wrestlers have the easiest path in the early part of the season.

I don't know, I think a Super-frosh has a better chance at going undefeated for a run into the season as a round-of-12er. I see where they're coming from. I love Chris Villalonga and I think he's a good pick for this contest, but I can't confidently say he'll go longer without a loss than Snyder.

It's a testament to how high the general wrestling fan base is on Snyder. there are very few who doubt that he's right there with the best at 197. High praise for a rookie. To be honest, I can't think of any true freshman that has had this level of uncontested hype (or confidence in his skills) in my time following the sport. Schlatter didn't have it, Nickerson, Taylor...maybe Mocco???

I entered for the first time, this year, on a lark. I knew that, to be serious, the most important step is to check the schedules for each wrestler under consideration.

But I didn't (too much work) so my choices (Snyder and Thomusseit) are surely destined to fail.

Snyder is going to have to run the gauntlet culminating with a SHOWDOWN on Dec. 14th. (MIZZ @ TOSU)

Whoops.

At any rate, Snyder and Coon have been chosen the most at this point.

He should meet Cox before that at CKLV (and a very stiff field) on Dec. 5yh and 6th.

Based on the latest InterMat rankings, the 1,2,3,8,10,14,16 and 19th ranked wrestlers will be in Kyle Snyder's 197 pound bracket at CKLV.

Can anybody tell me the last time Snyder wrestled a weight under 200 lbs?

I doubt that they actually had to make weight, likely a five pound allowance, but that is close enough! Seems like he will be fine with the cut then.
