The MSU Open brackets are up and I see some interesting, and some disappointing, developments.

First, no Hunter Stieber at 149. Quite frankly, that sucks.

Second, Kyle Snyder v. Phil Wellington FIRST MATCH!!!!! What a random draw. We'll find out if the kid is for real off the bat!

Third, WRESTLING SEASON IS HERE!!!!!

Go Bucks!!!!!

Triggas, Courts, and Haines also missing.

According the trackwrestling, which has the brackets, Wellington and Snyder are in opposite halves.

They are up on trackwrestling.com.

No Johnni, Logan, Hunter, Courts or Haines. That is a little disappointing, but I'm still pumped!

No Seth Williams or JP Newton either. Also, Jake Ryan is in the Open division but Micah is in the frosh/soph grouping.

Incidentally, Micah opens with a tough opponent...little Simaz from the Fingerlakes wrestling club. He's in the same half with Jake Danishek as well.

All these guys not competing as well as others whose names have appeared for years on the roster. Is this the way to start a historic season? Hard to believe so many wrestlers are injured.

Jason, check your brackets, I show Kyle as #2 seed and Phil as #1 seed, so they shouldn't meet until the finals.

I think that Kyle has a pretty tough draw for his first tournament.
1st Round: Jake Smith - W. Va.
2nd Round: Nick McDiarmid - MSU
3rd Round: Max Huntley - UM
Finals: Phil Wellington - OU

You're right, but I swear when I looked initially that they met up in the second round after both had a bye. I wonder if someone saw that and then the brackets were redrawn.

I know that I shouldn't expect 'too much' from younger, unproven wrestlers. But, I am excited to see how young Jake Ryan does in the 149 open division. There are not a lot of ranked wrestlers in his class.

I know it's expecting a lot for a raw freshman to do well in a tournament like this, but the toughest guy in his half of the bracket appears to be Brandon Nielson from Purdue in quarter-finals. Tywan Claxton (OH) is the best of the upper bracket. - I would love to see Jake have a good tournament.

At 157, Josh Demas has a good draw in the upper bracket to get to the finals, but there will be a lot of competition in the lower bracket. The lower bracket should be between Randy Languis, Marcus Shceidel (Col.), and Brian Murphy (UM). - TOUGH CLASS!

At 165, I see the tournament boiling down to a finals match of BOJO vs Taylor Massa (UM).

Heavyweight could be a rematch of Nick Tavenello vs. Adam Coon in the finals!

The 125 class has an interesting field, but Nathan T. has a pretty good draw in the upper bracket, with a tough match with Zeke Moisey of W. Va in semis. Bottom half bracket has: Steven Micic (Ind), Andy DiSabato (OH), Del Vinas (KSU), Aaron Asaad (Pur), and Connor Youtsey (UM). It should be interesting.

Saw Bo make quick work of an opponent. Pinned him with a banana split.
