Discussion Topic: Ohio State v Michigan
Hank Kornblut added to this discussion on January 14, 2015

Someone posted on themat.com that he thinks Martin, Tav and Hunter will all be out.

Don't know whether or not that's true but I'm passing it along.

Michigan just gave Minny a heckuva match. They have some soft spots but also some very good wrestlers.

125: Tomasello v Youtsey (Bucks favored)
133: DiJu v Bruno (split last year)
141: Logan v whoever (Dutton has been out. Logan is no guarantee to pin if he's back. Otherwise 6 pts for Bucks)
149: Languis or Hunter v Pantaleo--swing match
157: Demas v Murhphy (Demas beat him by 1 in Vegas)
165: BoJo v Massa (BoJo beat him 4-1 earlier in season)
174: Martin or Prezzia v Mich. back up. Martin would be a solid favorite. Prezzia? Don't know.
184: Courts v Abounader. (Abou beat him twice last year)
197: Snyder v Huntley (Snyder beat him in early in season in a relatively close match)
285: ? v Coon. Assuming Tav doesn't go, it's 6 for Michigan.

Bucks can still win without Tav, Martin and Hunter but they will need to win 125, 165 and 197 plus two of three at 133, 157 and 184. Languis can win at 149 but he'd be a slight underdog. Same for Prezzia at 174. Logan and Coon will cancel out each other.

Ohio State is a terrible match-up for Michigan. This shouldn't be close.

125: Tomasello v Youtsey - Buckeyes 3-0
133: DiJu v Bruno - Buckeyes 3-3
141: Logan v whoever - Buckeyes 9-3
149: Languis v Pantaleo - Buckeyes 9-6
157: Demas v Murhphy - Buckeyes 12-6
165: BoJo v Massa - Buckeyes 15-6
174: Prezzia v Mich. back up - Buckeyes 15-9
184: Courts v Abounader - Buckeyes 15-12
197: Snyder v Huntley - Buckeyes 18-12
285: ? v Coon. (Assuming Tav doesn't go) - Buckeyes 18-18

This is a more game MI squad than given credit. They lost to Minny by 1 last weekend. If Hunter wrestles and is still injured (or reinjured maybe?), Pantaleo can hang with him. Pantaleo will highly likely dec Languis. I picked Bruno to make the point that this is a real swing match. He's wrestled well this season, though Johnni has better wins. It will be close either way . No loss of confidence in Johnni. Demas will rebound from the Alton match and get the team 3. I think there will be 9 points scored one way or another between Logan and NaTo. Not clear on whom the back-up 285 is, but a likely 6 points for MI. Courts can get another good victory and blow this thing open, but he has really not wrestled well against other ranked wrestler.s He's genuinely better than Abounader (and I like Abounader), We'll see which Kenny shows up. To me, 133, 174, and 184 are the swing matches that can seal the deal or make this thing really close (I picked against in all of these just to make the point, I doubt we lose them all, if any).

I think ray Gordon keeps it to a regular decision, and I think hunter wrestles and wins a close one in his current state and don't be surprised if nate gets bonus

Ha...it's too early ;-). I forgot to mention the deduction of 3 team points for MI for unsportsman like conduct :-D. I think I fixed it...

I'm sure Coach Ryan is thinking he'd like to save his starters if possible but wants to try and make sure they win the match.

I just saw the Purple Raider Open at Mount Union on Sunday has a lot of the Buckeyes entered, including 149 Jake Ryan, 157 Micah Jordan, 174 Dominic Prezzia & more. No T. Haines yet, though.
