Discussion Topic: West End YMCA - Coach Hunter
Tim McArthur added to this discussion on February 20, 2015

We had our end of the year banquet last night which, may end up being Coach Hunter's last as he tries to finally retire down to Florida. Coach Hunter has been coaching at the YMCA for 40+ years. At 73 he still has the strongest/hardest cross face I've ever had to endure. He is a big reason for Northeast Ohio's success with Wrestling! We turned back the clock a bit and got the entire team our old brown and gold T-Shirts. On the back we added HUNTER TRAINED!

Back Row far right...Jeff Hunter's son Dylan!

For those who don't know Jeff was Coach Hunter's son that passed unexpectedly 6 years ago. It's been pretty awesome for coach to have him with the program!

WE Y is one of the great youth programs in Ohio history. Nice of you to let us see these pics.

Who's gonna take over when Coach Hunter finally retires?

Coach handed me the keys last night so, I guess I'm going to be the guy. Working hard to make sure he has enough excuses to keep coming up. Scott Zirm - (St. Joes 3rd place 1993) has been helping me along with a handful of old West End guys that have their boys up there. Joe Tucceri (Euclid 2nd 96 and Cornell) will have his son in the program in a couple years so looking forward to that!

I have known Rich for 35 years or so. I was lucky enough to be an official for the quad last night where the Hunters were honored.
My sincere congratulations the Hunter family for a job well done.
You are one of a kind.

Jim,

I was the guy sitting next to him when you were talking about age, throwing in the legs, and advil. I've got a face to the name now. Nice meeting you! Thanks for all you have done for wrestling as well.

Good to meet you as well.
Compared to Coach Hunter, I feel like I have done nothing.
He has forgotten more about the sport than I ever knew.
You have BIG shoes to fill.
I wish you the very best.
