Discussion Topic: Predicting team outcomes at the NCAAs
Doug Brandt added to this discussion on February 25, 2015

A friend of mine, who is coming in from out of town to attend the Big Tens, has come up with a spreadsheet program that I am assisting him with that we will be using to predict team outcomes at the NCAAs, based on individual seedings and the historical performance of those seeds.

We're basically gathering the data from the last twenty years, and we're looking at things like, "how has the NCAA #6 seed at 125/126 performed since 1994?"

We haven't factored in bonus yet, and we also haven't fed in information such as teams traditionally performing less than/equal to/over seed. I'm guessing Gable teams from the past routinely performed above their seeds.

The more data we compile, and the more variables we address, the more potentially accurate we'll be.

It's all in fun, but it does give a general picture of what to expect.

Of course, any wrestler worth his salt would hardly allow a bunch of numbers determine his outcome at the big show.

So Doug should have no problem winning our NCAA Pick'em contest.

I'll set it up again and post on here in next few days.

I'm adding first prizes on list. Amazon cards to Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Of course, if, I mean when I win, the gold amount will skyrocket.

1st year -- had some guys step up. I placed.
2nd year -- nobody did. I sandbagged.
3rd year -- I'll get it going.

Come on fellas, get some prizes going.

Gold - $25 Amazon GC
Silver - $15 Amazon GC
Bronze $10 - Amazon GC

I think a great *prize would be:
Gold: tOSU season ticekts.
Silver - Ticket's to two duals of choice.
Bronze - Ticket to single dual of choice.

*Stipulation: must have at least one tOSU wrestler on your team and must wear tOSU gear to dual meets -- to qualify for prize.

hmmm, now if only somebody with strong connections to the programs were a reader of this forum?
