I've seen RUSH in concert.

Truly epic by every metric.

Southside Johnny probably a dozen times.

My best year was 2008 when I was able to see BB King, Eric Clapton, and The Eagles in one summer. It was pretty cool!

I saw the Met five times (when they used to come to Public Hall).

Madame Butterfly
Carmen
Tosca
And that magnificent Verdi opera, Rigoletto (twice)

But, my girlfriend back in college liked pop music, so this theory and composition major had to go to some rock concerts (around ten or so):
The most mesmerizing was a guy most of you probably never heard of, Shawn Phillips at public hall.
2nd best had to be at the old municipal stadium with the Rolling Stones, J Giels Band, and a group with just outstanding vocals called the Tower of Power.
Pink Floyd (stadium) was OK, Genesis was good, David Bowie was not bad, Frampton OK, ELP Very good, etc.

James Gang in a small bar in Athens in 1969.

The Who at the Convo Center, also in Athens, in 1969. Keith Moon at the drums.

Elton John, Frankfurt, Germany, 1972, Army days.

Miles Davis, Mershon Auditorium, 1980's. Electronic phase; three percussionists. He never looked at us.

I'm a piano tuner, too, and I've tuned for a number of well-known performers. (Not the above.)

Challenging work, but I wouldn't trade the experiences.

Clearly I need to repent like Job (in sackcloth and ashes)!

The Who? The Stones? The James Gang (Joe Walsh!)? J. Geils? The Eagles (Joe Walsh Squared!)?

Cool stuff.

Music. . .great subject.

I liked Rudy Vallee, Kate Smith, and that new guy Bing Crosby. But sometimes the Victrola's turntable needle made scratchy sounds, like Bing had a cold.

I've always been a fan of the older music of Genesis. Never saw them in concert but saw a tribute band, The Musical Box, recreate a Genesis concert in its entirety. Really fine show.

Shel: "Pardon me boy...is that the Chattanooga Choo Choo...."

Yep, Joe Walsh, too.

Hank. . .yes, "Chattanooga Choo Choo" was one of those newer songs that caught on. I like the older songs, and Genesis is more in my time frame.

I've seen Jimmy Buffett 27 times, and though I recognize there are many musicians with greater talent than Jimmy, he is simply my favorite. Just awesome.

Best concert was either the Rolling Stones in 1997 at the horseshoe or MAYBE Neko Case at a little dive venue in Chicago, maybe 1999.

On the country side, which is my favorite type of music, I saw Hank Jr in 1980, Garth Brooks in 1996 and and Jason Aldean last summer....all were very good.

Lastly, my high school hip[ hop days must be recognized: Bell Biv Devoe in full effect (with Ralph T, Keith Sweat and Johnny Gill) was freaking awesome. At least when I was 17.

Brian: you have me by 4. Just a great time. Hope he adds Pittsburgh. Only Cincy in Ohio this year.

Beach Boys, Michael Stanley Band about 4 times, Billy Idol (fun but very rough), Heart, Doobie Bothers, The Cure, INXS, Genesis, The Cars, Elton John, Billy Joel, Men at Work, Indigo Girls, Kenny G and Michael Bolton (go easy it was a date), Jerry Vale (with my dad), Otis Day & the Knights, Springsteen, many early 80's college bands and others I cant recall -- or don't want to.

Oh, and Prince (1983?) at Cincinnati Riverfront. Believe it or not one of the best.

I heard Niemann traveled across the country following Vanilla Ice (opening act KrissKross) on the "Back2Kool" concert tour at the height of Vanilla's popularity.

Something about trying to Bogart his way on to the set of Vanilla's movie "Cool As Ice" and a Restraining Order landed him hitchhiking home to The Grove from Topeka, Kansas back in '91...

Mark, can you clarify the details for us, VH1 "Behind the Music: The Mighty Cruiser Story" style?

Eric Clapton 1974 at OSU
The Band 1983 reunion tour Front Row
Stevie Ray Vaughn, the year before his crash at The JAR, Fabulous Thunderbirds were the warmup.
James Taylor at least 10 times.
It was great in highschool you could see anyone at Blossom for $4.00.
