AWN just out, ranks Ohio st #4, not bad - no mention of Micah he's a wild card that could change things, ohio st has a few unknown factors that could really vault them if a couple guys worked out- Bo 1 at 174.
behind penn st, okla st, michigan, & iowa is 5th. Penn st has some unproven too they are depending on frosh Bo Nickal, Nevills (is he out?), Nolf, they not a lock. Okla st very solid entire lineup, just needs finalists as is Michigan very solid throughout..

What possible reason could the NCAA give in denying it?

none i'm sure but he has to apply of course, u know how life is- no ask, no get.
ohio st can challenge for the top this year even w/o Snyder if a couple guys come thru, not unrealistic --
we need big seasons from at least 2 of these 4, here's what i'm understanding:
Micah could be a superstar
Hunter won't be competing till January, we will know then
Myles Martin looks great as does Kollin Moore.

There are criteria that have to be met. I believe you have to miss most or all of 2 seasons to get a medical redshirt. I don't know the specifics of the criteria, but it's along those lines.
Nevills may meet that criteria--he sustained a season-ending injury mid-year last year and will miss all of this year.

With Nevills out, where do you think Jan Johnson falls in the pecking order of the Big Ten? Coon is at the top, but then there's a significant drop after him (on most days when he's on). Somebody catching fire at the right time could be a B10 finalist.

i see u r on top of this Curt, i too hear PSU 285 is football player Jan Johnson, was PA champ at 195. He behind most everyone else in big ten i'm thinking: Coon, Black at illinois is good, Kroells at Minn is good, Jensen at NEB, Peck at Md, Tav at ohio st all competitive.

Agree with Bob--I think Johnson will struggle to win a match unless there's a team with a really bad situation/injury at this weight.
Slightly off topic--if Tav stays healthy, I like his odds of having a breakout season. He was pretty much even with Walz over the last few years. Walz has really developed. I'd like to think Tav--who was progressing well last year until he got hurt--will take a step forward and AA.
