Tough situation for Tavanello, I felt he made some big improvements this year.

For those like me who hadn't seen the full story, but only the hootin' and hollerin' on this site, here's a link. :)

This is incredibly intriguing. I am sure we are all curious to see how our World Champ adjusts to the heavyweight division. The Penn State and Wisconsin matchups do not offer a ranked heavyweight.

While he may seem small he has been wrestling one of the best heavys in the world in the room for some time now, one whom he has credited for some of his success: Dlagnev.

I'm sure he and the staff have a very educated idea of his chances of success. He may be the only one who can best Gwiz.

The whole thing is fascinating.

Foundationally we were already compelled by Snyder's poise and priorities as he handled himself with a crushing loss in the NCAA Finals.

In workmanlike fashion, he presses on and promptly wins a World Title as a 19 year old; now the glimpses of possible "Legend" status unfurl.

Normatively, an Olympic "Redshirt" ensues, as would be expected.

But wait! There's more!

He comes back to the team under circumstances where a repeat is uncertain, moves up a weight class, were a 2xer awaits.

#Epic

Not to be contrarian but I don't get it.

It's an awesome individual decision for Kyle to come back for the team, but does this help or hinder his quest to be an Olympian? Trials are two weeks after NCAAs, right? Will his body be prepared? Will this run him down?

And what impact does this have on Tavanello? I mean I feel bad for him. I'm sure he'll say all the right things but his competitive career could essentially be over.

The RS seemed perfectly timed. Tav would score at NCAAs and Snyder would be perfectly prepared for the trials.

So my opinion is mixed - really cool that he's coming back and excited to watch him compete, but not sure how this helps him with his stated ultimate goal of making the team.

But in the end he will help the Bucks chase a title, which is exciting.

Ethan: Those are valid points.

This is a big risk. Myles Martin and Kyle Snyder will both lose a competitive season in the future to help the team chase a title now. But here are some possibilities:

Myles Martin is the solid competitor we assume he can be but loses rd of 12.

Bo ends up 3rd at 165 while someone like Crutchmer wins 174. We know Bo can beat Crutchmer.

Snyder struggles a bit in his transition back to folk against larger opponents who look to slow him down on his feet and ride him on top. He places but fails to make the finals. Or worse...Snyder suffers an injury against a much bigger opponent and if affects his ability to prepare for the Olympics

None of us know what to expect from Hunter.

Coach Ryan, his staff and his team feel they can win a title with the moves they've made. I admire the bravado and recognize they may be right.

But the downside is considerable. This is a big risk. I'm glad I'm not the one making the decision.

Having said it...I'm excited to watch this revamped squad compete.

I'm going to have to remind myself that if things go south, I can't take on an attitude of hyper-criticism; it's a gutsy move, but I think the best one with the known variables at this time...
