Discussion Topic: What if PSU actually wrestled Iowa
Jim Kessen added to this discussion on February 8, 2016

Since they don't win who do you think would win if they did wrestle

125 #2 Gillman vs. #4 Nico
133 #3 Clark vs. #5 Conaway
141 NR Grothus vs. #14 Gulibon
149 #2 Sorenson vs. #1 Zain
157 #18 Cooper vs. #1 Nolf
165 NR Paddock vs. #17 Shakur
174 #10 Meyer vs. #1 Nolf
184 #11 Brooks vs. #9 McCuth
197 #4 Burak vs. #1 McIntosh
285.#7 Stoll vs. PSU

Iowa wins 125-dec. 133-dec. 141-dec. 184-dec. 285.-MD

PSU 149-dec.157-TF 165-dec. 174-dec. 197-dec.

PSU wins 17-16

Should they set divisions like football and have the division champs wrestle each other?

A couple things. First, Stoll is a pinner and I think he decks Jansen.

Zain, Rasheed and Nickal are bonus candidates as well.

I've thought they should split the B1G into two divisions like football. You wrestle the same schedule as the football team played in terms of conference teams. At the end of the year bring everyone together and have the 1st place teams wrestle each other, have the second place teams wrestle each other and so on. Would be a great event.

If wrestling teams followed the football schedule in 2016-17 they'd wrestle the schedule as follows:

Ohio State- Rutgers, Indiana, Wisconsin, Penn State, Northwestern, Nebraska, Maryland, MSU, Michigan

Penn State- Michigan, Minnesota, Maryland, Ohio State, Purdue, Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers, Michigan State

Iowa- Rutgers, NW, Minn, Purdue, Wisc, PSU, Mich, Ill, Neb

Ohio State and Iowa won't wrestle under that format, but Penn State has both Ohio State and Iowa. A strong Michigan team has all 3.

Unless they change the scheduling rubric, here's Ohio State's B1G schedule:

Home: Illinois, Maryland, Northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers
Away: Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin
Miss: Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue

How do we miss Michigan - thought that would be a yearly event as our main rival?

I had no idea there was a scheduling rubric. I'd be willing to bet that Michigan ends up on the schedule somehow. After a quick bit of research, Ohio State has wrestled Michigan during the regular season every year since at least 1990. No reason to think they'd end that now.

Your permanent opponent is Penn State, Michigan's is Michigan State.
