Seems that no one else wants to mention it so....
Myles got handled by Dean 13-4.

Conjectures:

1) Too soon to say too much. Metcalf TF'd Caldwell in All Star only to get beat in NCAA finals as an example. It's just an exhibition.

2) Dean is a bad matchup for Martin and/or just better.

3) No worries. Coach Ryan and Co. will make adjustments and Myles will be able to compete with him in the future.

4) Myles is small at the weight.

5) Some combo of the above or something else.

Gabe Dean is an outstanding wrestler that showed alot of technique along with strength. Defeating him is going to be a far greater challenge than beating Bo Nickal. Dean stays in solid position and great technique compared to Bo Nickal who's completely opposite.

Gabe Dean and Zahid Valencia have the same type of wrestling approach. Gabe Dean has shown he's the man to beat at 184#.

Good answer Dwight. That's why I posed the question.

Dean fully fits the weight in terms of strength. He has to work hard to make weight, week in and week out, during the season. Myles, on the other hand has 4 months to grow and build his strength up. I predict a different match outcome come March.

I feel the wrestling ability is more of a factor than strength in the Dean and Martin match. In the first 30 seconds of the match Martin fought off a good takedown attempt from Dean with tremendous power on the edge. I feel Dean was stalking Martin and his conditioning at this point in the season was far superior. Dean wrestled with a purpose last night maybe he wanted to make a statement to the country that 184 is his weight class. I think Martin will have to get better in all facets especially positioning because Dean is so fundamentally sound. I think Dean has the ability to compete for a spot on the Senior World Team. I learned more about Gabe Dean from watching the match however, Myles has a very bright future to come.
