That was interesting. Not your average "head coach announcement".

No. Clearly Gavin was not close to a first choice. But that doesn't mean he won't do a good job. Given the sense of Pitt as a "sleeping giant", we'll see how quickly he is able to rebuild the squad and how far forward he can bring it.

Strange. Bono offered double the salary in a wrestling hotbed. Why interview if that type of offer doesn't do it?

Seems there is something wrong at Pitt or maybe it wasn't really an offer. I've read in a couple of places that some reported offers really weren't extended.

For those of us adults in the wrestling world, Keith Gavin is top-shelf stuff. Does he have the name/star-power among the recruits? I guess we'll see.

You don't need a big name to recruit. Two words: Anthony Ralph. Yes he's selling tOSU. But he's the face of recruiting (or so I'm assuming). Ryan Morningstar has been largely credited for improving Iowa's recruiting as well.

Chris Bono must clearly enjoy being at SDakota. Good for him for staying put.

Agreed! Bono, and to the same level Kolat, has taken a virtually unknown program and made it more appealing than it was before they arrived. If Bono, and Kolat for that matter, continue on the path they are on, it could be, in 10, 12, or 15 years, some upstart of a coach will view SDSU (and Campbell) as attractive options based on what the coach is currently doing. And that fact fills my heart with joy. (Not to mention my pending restraining order for Kolat. ;-) )
