"Who's McKenna?"
|
I know you're joking but some that may not have the time to study up on our newest All-American, I have summarized as best I could.
McKenna grew up in New Jersey and wrestled at Blair Academy in High School. He was a 3x Fargo champ in Greco and 2x runner up in freestyle. He was a 3x National Prep Champ in HS and won a Silver at Junior Worlds going into his senior year but after qualifying for Worlds (never having to make weight) missed weight at 60kg (132.2lb) by .1kg after his senior year.
As a freshman he went 27-3 and got 3rd at NCAAs losing to Bryce Meredith.
Last year, as a Sophomore, he again only had 3 losses but did not place at NCAAs. He got pinned by Tommy Thorn in OT and then lost to Eierman in consis. His only other loss was to Joey Ward that year.
McKenna is great from neutral. Reminds me a lot of Mic. Controls the center of the mat. Good from space. Good single and double. Good with tie ups. Likes to work from a 2 on 1. Almost never gets taken down unless he doesn't finish and gets countered.
Unlike Micah, Joey is strong on bottom. Very hard to hold down.
His top game is his weakest position and where guys like Mic, Logan and Jaggers will really improve his game. Not the greatest hips. He often will use a optional start and let his opponent up, preferring to wrestle from neutral.
Love to hear insight from anyone else.
