Discussion Topic: Do we need to discuss Taylor's comments on Cox?
Ethan Moore added to this discussion on August 26, 2017

Always been a huge D.T. fan. Was shocked by his comments on J'den Cox.

Seemed out of character for such a high class competitor.

Wow! I hope Taylor apologizes for that completely classless tweet.

Probably not. I think the Tweet reply of "Sit down." covers this one.

Not too shocking for D.T. these days especially after the way he and Cael behaved after losing to Cox.

I'm a big D.T. fan but his tweet is classless. He should have already apologized.

Cox now has two world comp medals and has wrestled brilliantly. Kudos to him.

I thought timing was bad but what he said about Cox not having fight - it was what everybody that I know that watched it live was thinking. Cox, by his own admission wrestled UGLY in everything before his bronze medal match. D.T. gave him some bulletin board material and Cox DID wrestle much much better (for whatever reason) in the bronze medal match - and it was on his mind enough to reply to the camera as he was walking off the mat.

Flo's talk about the J'Den / D.T. drama, IMHO, is dead on.

Personally I think Cox was well scouted. He got hit with a firemans and an arm spin because his opponents were expecting his tie up to come in a certain way. I don't think he "lacked fight." When you have to wrestle 4-5 matches in a short period of time, you can run out of gas.

Cox didn't get a lot of training in due to his knee injury. For that reason, I don't think the criticism was valid. Nor appropriate.

This gets a little tricky. My knee jerk reaction is that Taylor's post was classless, period. Much like Kasper last year...bad timing, bad message, bad decision. I will say that there's a generational component to this. In this age of social media, Brady's view of, "he just shared what everyone was thinking", is real. Younger people share things that I wouldn't. That doesn't make it wrong, necessarily.

That being said, this was wrong.

Taylor is salty because he wants that opportunity. There is some drama around the team trials as well. That being said you've got to win the spot and the incumbent is going to get the benefit of the doubt.

That being said Cox is a beast and unseating him is a tall order. Maybe he (D.T.) should consider marrying abroad and getting dual citizenship.

Puerto Rico is a lovely place. :)

I get that he's salty, but there's a way to be a person. My real issue with it is I don't see how anyone honest (even Taylor) could think he SHOULD be the guy? Cox is the 3X NCAA champion, Cox is the Olympic bronze medalist. Cox is the World bronze medalist. Cox beat Taylor at the trials...not just once, but two out of three. If you going to criticize the guy winning medals in competitions you can't even qualify for, you better have a good reason, or argument, or something. I'm just not seeing it.

Joe: I thought similarly.

Generational or not very bad taste to critique that way at that time the person who you can't beat -- at least not yet.

And I think he just made it harder on himself.

Hank's point about the possible lack of full training because of the injury at trials shouldn't be missed. I don't like excuses but I saw the torque on that leg. Had to set him back a little.

And I was rooting for D.T. at trials.

I hear what you are saying Mike.

Taylor has made every sacrifice possible as well in his mind and is entitled to his opinion.

In his mind, he is better than Cox. Except he didn't get it done when it was necessary.

and he is still entitled to his opinion even if it doesn't make sense to others especially in real world objective terms. It only matters that it makes sense to him.

Rex: Next world championships will have two more wt classes--79 and 92 kilos. Cox is likely to slide up to 92 so Taylor can fit in at 86. And Kyle Dake can move up to 79. At least on paper these moves would make sense.
