Discussion Topic: OSU recruiting moving forward

With the last day of 2017 and a little OSU wrestling lag time I went back and re read the flo article on OSU recruiting after the Sasso signing:

https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6070041-2018-southern-scuffle-pre-seeds

The Bucks are certainly entering some uncharted waters recruiting wise. One thing that's very apparent with this coaching staff is their ability to strategically plan for the future. My question is where do you go, and who do you target for what weights. As flo stated, baring injuries and transfers there are "no holes". You are now essentially recruiting for depth or bringing in a prospect that could 1 start only a year or two, or 2 push out a current starter. There is a strong possibility that guys like Keshawn or even (dare I say) Kollin who will have legit world class guys coming in behind them. The Bucks have officially moved into a higher tax bracket. What recruits do they target?

One name missing from your list Mr. Surles: Kurt McHenry. He is probably the best wrestler in the nation not currently in college.

Vic Voinovich will be on the radar soon. And definitely would love to see Braxton Amos, A.J. Ferrari and Kurt McHenry sought after with a vengeance. Those are guys you have to go after no matter how deep the lineup is getting.

I know! However, we already have Heinselman and the Decatur’s on the way. He’s undersized as is Heinselman plus Heinselman proved he could beat McHenry. Seems like a we are going to be log jammed in the 125-133 area. But I wouldn’t be mad at all if we got him!

According to InterMat Rankings the Bucks have the following recruits

#1- 106 Jacob Decatur
#3-120 Malik Heinselman
#10-126 Jordan Decatur
#1-138 Quin Kinner
#4 -138 Alex Felix
#4-152 Sammy Sasso
#1-160 Jaden Mattox
#17-160 Josh Ramirez
#2-170 Rocky Jordan
#12-170 Braedin Redlin
#1-195 Gavin Hoffman

That is a pretty good class.

McHenry weighed 105lbs and gave up 13lbs to Heinselman (who cut down to weight). He's an elite talent that needs just a bit of size. Another year will tell but I haven't heard his name anywhere associated with the Bucks. Amos on the other hand has been linked to OSU pretty consistently, but he's still very young. Both would be great prospects to land.
