Discussion Topic: Three Questions

This was a good win at home against an undefeated Iowa squad. That said:

Are you satisfied with the outcome or satisfied overall with the effort?

Are you concerned about Nate or do you chalk this up to a need to change strategy?

Was it a wuss move by Iowa to hold out Stoll?

I'm satisfied with beating Iowa anyway we can. We are 2-37 in the last 39 meets against Iowa. Honestly, the dual went pretty much as predicted other than Nato and lee. Although, know one was shocked with the outcome. I think Hayes and Micah showed some positive progress that they can use to build on. Our bottom wrestling will probably become a point of emphasis in the coming weeks at practice with Penn State looming.

Lee is a stud as is Nato. It will be a war every time they wrestle. Both are still coming back from serious injuries and Iowa has a good strategy for slowing Nato's high crouch down. However, Nate will make adjustments and stand on top of the podium in March.
Yes, the Stoll move was wussie of the highest order!

If Iowa throws Stoll out there how much closer is this match really? I'm not so sure it helps their cause to get him wrecked. The battle at 285 is for the most second place points possible.

Yes, Iowa deserves their ranking. They just beat a very good Okie State team. Looks like they AA at 125, 149, 157, 165, 197, and 285 based on rankings. A very good team but OSU has 5 legitimate title threats, which is a great team. Good performance by the Bucks, definitely did not account for all seven minutes in some of the matches.

From Iowa, most impressed with Lee, that second period ride was amazing. match for Nato from which to learn.

Stoll sitting. Buzzkill.

I'm not sure how I feel about Lee. Yes I'm impressed with him since he has beat 2 top 10 guys his last 2 matches. On the other hand he has wrestled 3 top 10 guys this year and has 1 total TD. Can he maintain that come nationals and keep winning without getting a TD.

Nate was in on a single and had it up in the air and seemed in good position to finish with less than 30 seconds to go. Right around the 20 sec point, just as it seems he would score, he suddenly lands on his butt. I can't tell if he slipped or if Lee hit some type of pick. But that was the difference between a likely win vs a loss.

Yes to both on the 1st part. Iowa came out fighting, but so did our guys.

Not concerned w/ NaTo. I'd prefer he lose early. He wasn't giving up takedowns repeatedly. In fact, NaTo had the only offensive points in the match. On top of that, he had at least 2 other near takedowns in the match. I suspect his is a matter of a few minor adjustments. Lee might have gotten some confidence knowing he can ride NaTo, but he has to have some level of concern with how often NaTo was on his leg(s). That match could swing to a 4-5 pt decision for NaTo next time if Lee stays w/ what he's doing while NaTo makes adjustments.

I didn't like Stoll being sat but given his injury history for the last 2 years I understand why they would sit him. If you have suspect knees as a 285, Snyder is NOT the guy you want to test those knees on. This dual, while entertaining, meant nothing in the grand scheme of things. Losing Stoll in a match he was almost certainly going to lose badly would cost Iowa serious team points at B1G's and NCAAs. That could cost them a trophy of any sort. So, it was disappointing but understandable.

unless stoll recently tweaked the knee or there is some medical reason he can only wrestle every other week, I don't understand the logic that you don't wrestle him because he "might" get injured. I don't see there being any significantly greater odds of him getting injured vs Snyder than anyone else.

IMO, I think they need to use the "Stieber/ Retherford" strategy. If you don't need to go down, choose neutral. Logan never lost to Retherford after that first meeting by beating him on his feet and not worrying about getting that 1 escape point.

Honest question, who should choose down? Maybe Pletcher?

No way i put Snyder under many of the HVYs. There is no point in that. Not worth the effort for 1pt. I agree with Pletch and Moore and mostly MyMar, but Bo's struggles underneath his cousin are well documented.
Obviously, the decision is situational, but in general this team struggles underneath and should probably choose neutral.
