Intermission....so far so good

Bucks up 15-5

Nate by major after a rough first period...Pletch solid and takes dec....McKenna with a big win on the road. Very impressed. I think he had two backs that the ref missed...Hayes takes down Retherford twice but gets beat up on bottom. Solid effort...Micah by TF...

Bucks heavily favored at 285. Need to win one of other four to take the dual. Can even win with only one more victory depending on bonus.

That was a great match for McKenna!
Solid win for Nate and Pletcher.
Pretty excited when Hayes got those takedowns! And he worked hard on bottom, almost got away with just a major.
Great work by Micah!

I would love to see more intensity in the 174 match. Seems like the energy has been sucked out of our guys.

Lefty vs Lefty. His advantage was negated.

It looked like the PSU guy had been well-drilled in what to expect and had a counter well rehearsed.

Yep. Remember when Dustin Kilgore was going for his second title against Quentin what's his name? Kilgore was the fave but the match wasn't even close. He was beaten by Cael before he took the mat. Cael is a master strategist.

I dunno. It didn't look like the same Kollin Moore from the first whistle on. I don't know of it was the heat, the environment, flu, or what it was but he didn't have his game going and looked depleted before he ever got deep into the match. I think we see a difference come B1G's.

Did Bo even take a shot? He seemed to be in that mode of running down the clock and waiting for a last chance TD?? He can't be 100% healthy. And Kyle, forget that lateral drop against a much bigger opponent. Very dangerous. Seemed like a mental error in trying it. And Pletcher isn't flashy, putting big points up, he just keeps winning! I can live with that.

TR said that Kyle had to win by 12 for them to win the dual. I would guess that lead him to try that throw desperate to get those back points.

I was surprised he didn't at least try the cow catcher first before going for the big throw. But yes, he had to get a 12 point advantage, which I found out in the Ryan interview.

It was actually a 13-point edge that was required. PSU was +12 in point differential heading into that heavyweight match, but had an insurmountable lead in the next criteria, namely most nearfall points in matches that didn't end in six-point victories (which is to say, all of them...there were no falls, DQs, forfeits, or defaults).

Kyle is strong but not capable of overpowering guys who outweigh him by 40 lbs.

Best case scenario, he would have expertly played the TD game and worked up to a TF. Clearly, he took risks due to the team score situation.

I'm not so sure about that part of the equation. I think there are plenty of times we see him overwhelm larger guys because of his strength. Especially "positional strength" when he's in certain situations. And his strength generally doesn't fade as much as his opponents when he's late in a match so the perceived strength deficit against the bigger boys fades. Essentially, if he beats on a big boy and wears him out over the course of two periods I think a third period pin for Snyder is much more likely. But in this instance, he went out there and went for it right outta the gate and I just don't think that's going to happen against a fresh Nevills.
