IMO, Bucks start the year with Mead. I haven’t heard any reports from anyone regarding how he and Heinselman stack up in the room, but #Brackattack is the best of the crop from last year. Recent redshirt wisdom suggests that Malik gets a half season under his belt of opens then reevaluate for January. I agree that you only pull the shirt if it’s a substantial improvement in the lineup. We also have Jacob Decatur coming in next year, so I would think 125 will get even more crowded moving forward.
As far as the rest of the country we could see a thinning of the heard so to speak. As others have said it appears that Liza’s, and Suriano are headed to 133. There’s Spencer Lee and then a massive chasm before you run into a group of “guysâ€. If Malik is good as advertised he should be able to challenge for a R12 or low AA spot by the end of the year. If he needs to continue to fill into the weight then I’m sure Bracken will be a serviable 125, but even he may have made a level jump from last year.

Jared: solid contribution. Brakan Mead has only gotten better each year since he started. I see zero reason he won’t improve in the Ohio State room. His strength is bound to improve as he matures and his skill set will only takes positive steps.
Can’t wait to see it all go down.

I agree and could see Mead making a jump. He was a starting 125 in the Big 10 a year after being a high school 113. That is a pretty tall task. Another year to grow physically and adjust to college wrestling technique would seem like just what the doctor ordered. Hunter Lucas transferred in last year and had some success at opens. I wonder how he stacks up against Mead and or Heinsleman?

Heinselman is a stud and Ryan will be tempted to start him. But 125 is always a tough weight and even without Lizak and Suriano, 125 will be deep. Heinselman is good enough in terms of technique to AA now. But he may lack the horsepower to make the podium this season.
It gets even more interesting when the smaller Decatur arrives. The Decaturs are not the types to accept sitting on the bench. There's going to be a log jam at 125 starting next season.
