It looks like Triggas and Johnstone received favorable positions given their seedings. Not saying they are seeded too high but if they are going to pull some surprises they seem to be in a good spot to do it based on their paths through the brackets. C.P. has a tough half bracket.

141 seems all over the place. Many of these guys have beaten each other, including J beating the 1 seed Russell. J takes this I think.

Dustin has a pretty good road to Metcalf but Palmer has a tough road to the finals. Starts with Jenkins and has to go through Metcalf. Still, I keep having the feeling that if anyone can beat Metcalf, Palmer has what it takes.

Sponseller is a wild card but if (when) he gets past his first match he has Perry waiting. It will be interesting to see if he has learned anything between the start of B10 duals and the tournament. If yes, he could make this very interesting.

Pucillo has a great road to Todd but the 1 seed should, I suppose. Same with Bergman.

Almost certain consolations right away for Picazo and Weakley.

Pucillo's "reward" for the top seed is Roger Kish. Assuming Kish is still unhealthy, it's a good draw. But if he's feeling better, then Todd got a break. Keddy's pretty tough though so Todd has his hands full.

It looks like Picazo got as good of a draw as he could have hoped for. He would have to beat Corpe and the MSU kid to go (doable). I think Triggas got a much tougher draw than #8 seed Cudd. Nikko will likely have to knock off McKnight to go.

Here is the bare minimum that the Ohio State wrestlers must do to qualify...

125: Nikko Triggas - Fr. - #7 Seed
- Beat Akif Eren (Purdue) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Mark McKnight (Penn State) in the Consolation Quarterfinal or beat Cudd/Precin/Gomez for 7th place.

133: Reece Humphrey - So. - #7 Seed
- Beat Eric Metzler (Northwestern) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Hernandez/Gomez in the Consolation Quarterfinal or beat Tim Haas (Penn State) in the match for 7th place

141: J Jaggers - Jr. - #3 Seed
- Beat Matt Redmond (Purdue) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Sulzer/Ruschell in the Consolation Quarterfinal or beat Ryan Prater (Illinois) in the match for 7th place

149: Lance Palmer - So. - #5 Seed
- Beat Kendall Vogel (Wisconsin) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Grant Paswall (Illinois) in the Consolation Quarterfinal or Jake Patacsil (Purdue) in the match for 7th place

157: Jason Johnstone - Jr. - Unseeded
- Beat John Fulger (Michigan State) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Henning/Schlatter in the Consolation Quarterfinal or Marsh/Morningstar/Becker/Vallimont in the match for 7th place

165: Colt Sponseller - Fr. - #4 Seed
- He will beat Roger Smith-Bergsrud (Illinois) in the Championship Quarterfinal to clinch a qualifying spot.

174: Alex Picazo - Sr. - Unseeded
- For his own chances, it really doesn't matter if he wins or loses his first match because either way he's going to end up either facing Corpe in the match for 7th place or going 0-2. To qualify, he'll either have to beat Corpe twice or beat the loser of Clum/Murphy in Consolation Round 2 and beat Corpe in the match for 7th place

184: Mike Pucillo - So. - #1 Seed
- He'll beat Nick Palmieri (Michigan State) and A.J. Kissel (Purdue) to reach the semifinal and clinch qualification.

197: John Weakley - Fr. - Unseeded
- Beat #8 Anthony Biondo (Michigan) in Consolation Round 2
- Beat either Williams/Herbst in the Consolation Quarterfinal or Beatty/Bronson in the 7th place final

285: J.D. Bergman - Sr. - #1 Seed
- He'll beat Everhart/Berhow handily and clinch qualification

Ohio State is 2-8 through the Quarterfinal round. Ouch.

Pucillo and Bergman are our only guys that won and they are in the semifinals. Pucillo will face former NCAA finalist Roger Kish (Minnesota) who had a close match in the quarterfinal against Phil Bomberger (Penn State) who Pucillo beat handily twice earlier in the year. Bergman will face All-American Matt Fields (Iowa) who won a tight match over John Wise (Illinois) 7-5.

It's not a huge surprise to see the bucks struggling. Pucillo and Bergman--who advanced to the semis--were the only guys that looked to have likely finalist potential.

Don't panic. Some of the Bucks--noteably Jags and Sponseller--have had soft landings. If both of these guys wrestle as they're capable, they stand a good chance to make it to the 3rd place bout.

Palmer will likely win his first cons but then must take on Lang. If he wins, he makes the cons semis. If he loses, he goes for 7th. Lang's loss to Kinser was a big "monkey wrench" for the weight class. Hey, Josh Churella--constantly overrated--was beaten by Patascil.

Reece Humphrey should win his first cons match then face Andrae Hernandez. If he beats Hernandez, he stands a pretty good shot to make it to 3rd. If he loses, he'll go for 7th and should win.

Triggas has a decent shot to get out. He'll face Purdue--whom he'll beat--then probably McKnight--also winnable. He has a pretty good shot to get no lower than 7th.

Not likely to finish top 7 and qualify: Picazo, Johnstone and Weakley.

Remember folks: the name of the game is to get out. High finishes are nice but many of the Buckeye wrestlers are facing the toughest national comp at their weights right now. Just qualify--then win in two weeks.
