Discussion Topic: Fargo: Shumate's gold leads ten All-Americans from Ohio in 16U Boys' Freestyle

In the 16U Boys' Freestyle competition in Fargo, ten wrestlers from Ohio earned All-America honors and one, Seth Shumate, won a national championship. As a team, Ohio finished in third place overall in the fifty-team field, just one point behind runner-up Minnesota and eleven behind the champion, Pennsylvania.

Seth Shumate, an incoming sophomore at Coffman High School in Dublin, went 5-0 -- a pin in 22 seconds, three wins by technical superiority, and an 8-2 decision -- to win the national championship at 195 pounds. This spring, Shumate was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 195 pounds and the OHSAA Division I State Champion at 195 pounds.

Dillon Campbell went 5-1 to place second in the country at 94 pounds. In the spring, Campbell was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 94 pounds and the OAC Middle School State Champion at 90 pounds.

Kyren Butler, an incoming junior at Copley High School, went 7-1 to place third in the nation at 126 pounds. This spring, Butler was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 126 pounds. Butler qualified for the OHSAA Division I State Championships as a sophomore (at 120 pounds) and a freshman (at 113 pounds).

Codie Cuerbo, an incoming sophomore at Aurora High School, went 5-2 to place fourth in the country at 94 pounds. In 2018, Cuerbo was the OAC Middle School State Champion at 78 pounds.

Sean Seefeldt, an incoming sophomore at Saint Edward High School in Lakewood, went 5-2 to place fourth in the nation at 106 pounds. This spring, Seefeldt placed second at the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Championships at 106 pounds and the OHSAA Division I State Championships at 106 pounds.

Ismael Ayoub, an incoming sophomore at Coffman High School in Dublin, went 6-2 to place fourth in the country at 126 pounds. In the spring, Ayoub placed fourth at the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Championships at 132 pounds and qualified for the OHSAA Division I State Championships at 126 pounds.

Tyler Lillard, an incoming sophomore at Saint Edward High School in Lakewood, went 6-2 to place fourth in the nation at 152 pounds. This spring, Lillard was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 152 pounds.

Gavin Brown, an incoming sophomore at Legacy Christian Academy in Xenia, went 6-2 to place fifth in the country at 145 pounds. In the spring, Brown was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 138 pounds and the OHSAA Division III State Champion at 126 pounds.

Riley Ucker, an incoming sophomore at Coffman High School in Dublin, went 4-2 to place fifth in the nation at 220 pounds. This spring, Ucker was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 220 pounds and qualified for the OHSAA Division I State Championships at 220 pounds.

Ryan Elrod, an incoming sophomore at Saint John School in Ashtabula, went 5-3 to place eighth in the country at 285 pounds. In the spring, Elrod was the USA Wrestling-Ohio 16U Boys' Freestyle State Champion at 285 pounds and qualified for the OHSAA Division III State Championships at 285 pounds.
