I'm looking at the current roster and there's some guys no longer on the team. Anyone have any insight?
Brakan Mead?
Alex Felix - Transferred somewhere, can't remember
Kevon Freeman?
Jaimen Hood?
Braeden Redlin?
Also, there are 14 true freshmen and 7 redshirt freshmen, wow.

Mead is done. Felix transferred to D2 San Francisco State.
No idea on the other three. Had high hopes for Freeman.

Mead was a junior last year. Did he graduate early? Decide to just hang it up? Injury?

Although none were projected to maybe ever crack the lineup, these guys were good recruiting gets with the capacity to challenge the blue-chippers in the room. You would've like to have seen them stick around long enough to reach their potential.
Injuries? Lack of passion? Desire to be a starter elsewhere? Who knows. College wrestling's tough.

Hopefully, CSU, OU, and KSU are able to make some good offers to those guys and maybe fit them in to their starting lineups.

Roster spot limits. Such stupidity but such is current law/compliance.

I will never understand the rationale behind roster limits. It could quite possibly be the dumbest NCAA rule ever. Denying non scholarship students a chance to participate is just plain stupid.

Brady, Dan, et al: Has the rationale for such a rule been provided? Like, what possible reason could the NCAA have for prohibiting an individual from walking on to better himself physically, mentally, and possibly even socially during his formative years??? I'd love to see this justification in writing.

Goes back to the days where larger schools would stack their teams with more players. The idea is that the talent can be spread out to more schools, thus leveling the playing field. Works in some sports, but not in others.

I believe there are Title IX implications...

Let's be honest - no coach wants a room with 50 people in it. Beyond it being dangerous, it's difficult to manage, etc.

I don't doubt any of this, but the NCAA making the mandate is MUCH different than a coach saying, "Hey - we're only keeping 35 of you. That's just the way it is."
Title IX: grrrrrrr...
Spread the wealth - can dig but isn't the 9.9 scholarships the vehicle for this???

I never really thought about a roster limit in wrestling. I’ve seen rosters with about 20 and others that seemed 3 times as much but perhaps not.
Is it 35?

Roe -
Third-hand, I think it's even lower than that, maybe closer to 30 (?).
I believe there is some Title IX interplay - e.g., if 50% of the school's enrollees are female, then 50% of athletic funding is to be dedicated toward female sports.
And 50% of the school's varsity athletes are to be female, as well.
So ergo your roster limitations.
I'm not certain of this, and in any event believe there is some margin of error/permissible deviation/flexibility, etc.
But at least third-hand, that's how this was all explained to me.
Unless I dreamt it.
