Discussion Topic: “We’ve got some midyear guys coming in.”

Quote from Bruce Andrews's post:

"Thanks Mike,
I wonder if it was because Kerkvliet was recruited and Hudson figured he wasn't needed (or would never start). Now that Kerkvliet is gone I wonder if he will reconsider his decision."

You're overthinking it. D1 College wrestling at the Big Ten level is not for everyone. If you're not heart and soul committed, it's not going to work. Even then it's really hard. I try hard to be sensitive to this fact when I write about wrestlers on this forum. Whatever I want to say about their weaknesses as wrestlers, they're busting their tail in a way I lacked the courage to do at their age.

Echemendia tweeted around late last night about big news coming soon....Favorited by Tom Ryan.

This would be a move that would help the Bucks, other possible breaks could be Busiello (Mentioned) Or Buckeye targets Sokol (de-commit from Iowa) or Jesse Vasquez who everyone thought was a Buckeye commit at some point.

We shall see.

"This is the Cuban, correct? He's a serious talent."

Forgive my ignorance here. Would Enchemdia be graduating early or did he already graduate and not enroll this fall? Wasn't he originally committed to ISU? What's the story here, Hank?"

He graduated but did not enroll anywhere. He was understandably behind the eight ball having not initially anticipated he would be able to wrestle in college.

Making some inferences based on what he's tweeted and the timing of events, he hadn't taken his standardized tests until the weekend of WNO. It appears that he felt like he was being misled as to what his actual options were (perhaps by his support group at ISU) after that took place. Since that time he's taken visits to Ohio State, Iowa, ASU. He tweeted something to the effect of "All I'm doing is what every other top recruit in a great place like the USA has the chance to do."

He "committed" to ISU by signing a financial aid offer from the school, not an NLI (which he wouldn't have been able to sign at the time of his "commitment."

Also, could one of the guys (plural) be a reference to Boykin (Greco commit from the OTC)? Seems reasonable that he might join the roster in the second semester as well.

Quote from Mark Niemann's post:

"I wanted to hold off on this until the school released the info, but this board apparently wants to know. So...

I have eligibility left. See y'all in January.

ps: How is Enchamedia eligible? No shade - just...grades, citizenship, etc."

I have eligibility left as well. TR would like me to suit up at 133 lbs.

Justin, how long would it take to get down to 125??

So, if it’s Enchemendia coming in at 157 what does that means for Hayes?

It means nothing for this year. Echemendia is far more likely to be fourth string than he is to be the starter. Cleary, Hayes and Mattox will have their way with him initially.

Echemendia needs time to transition socially on a college campus before he jumps into the Big 10 dual season.

You may be short changing Echemendia. He’s pretty highly regarded. Looking forward to seeing if the tease from Ryan pans out and if it is something that is actually going to have an effect on this season. We are well behind the front runners Iowa and PSU at this point. Getting some immediate help from one or two kids as well as improvement from a few current guys may put us in a better position to compete for third place this year.

Word is Echemendia is legit right now.

Crazy that if a FR isn't ready to place immediately, they look for a replacement. The days of development are almost over.

What would this mean for Mattox? Sasso below, Karchla above?

Probably about 60 programs would accept him with open arms.

DI wrestling - in any conference - is a brutal grind. The B1G is just the pinnacle of that grind.

So Anthony will enroll in January and immediately be eligible to wrestle for the Bucks. Flo said he is an option at 157 or 149 if Sasso moves up.
I heard from a reliable source that Sasso was looking to go 57 this year. I was a bit surprised when that didn’t happen and it looked like Hayes and he were going to wrestle-off.
Do you think Sasso would bump up a weight this year? With 49 nationally being open I would be surprised.
Thoughts?
