Ohio State v. Lock Haven

125 – Probably the only really competitive match of the dual, assuming starters for both teams. Anthony Noto is a very good wrestler, ranked 20th by InterMat. I think Malik gets a 3rd period takedown and wins this one 3-2.

133 – If Mendez is here, I think he majors Gabe Strickland or worse. If it is Bouzakis, the same. If it is Koontz, then I will give Strickland the decision.

141 – D’Emilio controls Tyler Dilley and possibly tacks on a major late.

149 – Sammy comes up with a pin over Connor Eck.

157 – Paddy gets a controlled decision over Claymont grad Ashton Eyler. If it’s Wilcox, I go with Eyler by decision.

165 – Carson beats Avery Bassett by decision. Pushes late for a major but runs out of gas.

174 – Smith majors Tyler Stoltzfus.

184 – Romero majors Colin Fegley.

197 – Hoffman majors Brad Morrison.

285 – Tate pins Ethan Miller. If Isaac Reid makes his debut for the season, I have Tate by decision.

Ohio State should win comfortably.

Ohio State v. Northern Iowa

125 – Malik should beat Kyle Gollhofer, but Gollhofer did wrestle Kaylor close, so Malik is on upset alert.

133 – Kyle Biscoglia is ranked 6th and took 3rd at Cliff Keen, so regardless of who wrestles for Ohio State, he might be the favorite. I think Mendez or Bouzakis can beat him, but Koontz would be in danger of getting majored. I’m giving Biscoglia the decision for now.

141 – Cael Happel (10th) beat D’Emilio at CKLV by decision, so I am going with that for now. Definitely a result that could be reversed.

149 – A well rested Sammy should get bonus over #25 Colin Realbuto.

157 – I would favor Paddy by decision over #27 Derek Holschlag, but that’s a true toss up.

165 – A healthy Carson is the favorite over #11 Austin Yant, by decision.

174 – Smith should be a heavy favorite in this one. He should get bonus.

184 – Feature matchup of the dual! Romero v. #2 Parker Keckeisen should be worth the price of admission. I’m going to give Keckeisen the decision, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kaleb pulled this one out.

197 – Hoffman should be a heavy favorite over Noah Glaser. If he’s aggressive, he could push for bonus late.

285 – Orndorff lost to #19 Tyrell Gordon 3-2 at CKLV. Hopefully he can reverse that result.

So, if my calculations are correct, and they generally are not, Ohio State would win the dual 20-12. There isn’t a single weight that Ohio State cannot win, but they could also lose at 125, 157 and 165 as well, which would result in losing the dual. I think they pull out the win.

Ohio State v. NC State or Lehigh

125 – Malik should be favored over Jaret Trombley (NCSU) or Carter Bailey (LU)

133 – Mendez and Bouzakis would both be favored over #25 Kai Orine (NCSU) or #8 Connor McGonagle (LU). That ranking for McGonagle seems off to me.

141 – D’Emilio would be an underdog to #12 Ryan Jack (NCSU), but that is a winnable match, but a favorite over #31 Malyke Hines (LU).

149 – Sasso would be a heavy favorite over #19 Jackson Arrington (NCSU) and #33 Manzona Bryant IV (LU).

157 – I would favor #9 Ed Scott (NCSU) and #7 Josh Humphreys (LU) over Paddy.

165 – Carson should bonus both #29 Donald Cates (NCSU) and Brian Meyer (LU).

174 – Smith should beat both Alex Faison (NCSU) and Jake Logan (LU).

184 – #2 Trent Hidlay (NCSU) has to the favorite over Romero, but Kaleb should beat #22 Tate Samuelson (LU).

197 – Both #9 Isaac Trumble and #4 Michael Beard would have to be favored over Hoffman.

285 – I would favor Tate over #13 Owen Trephan (NCSU) and #25 Nathan Taylor (LU).

Overall, I have Ohio State 20-12 over NC State and only losing 2 matches to Lehigh. IF Ohio State brings a full, healthy roster, anything less than a pool championship would be disappointing.

McGonagle is down to 133 this year after being up at 141 last year. This year has a win over Phillipi (who has a win over Byrd) and only loss to Daton Fix. The ranking is appropriate at this point given limited data.

Any news on Nick Feldman? Has he wrestled any matches this year?

Nice write up JLJ. N. Iowa has a pretty solid squad.

I hope we see Mendez back at 133. If not put in Bouzakis. I'm hoping Paddy will be back. Kharchla im not sure about, regardless I think Hepner should get at least one of the 2 matches on Monday. Just hoping everyone gets back to full health soon.

Feldman has not wrestled this season, but, on a positive note, was not wearing his neck brace at the KSU duel. I’m pretty sure Hepner is redshirting this season, so would not be able to compete for TOSU, unless I misunderstand the new rules.

According to Flo article Carson won’t wrestle and Jesse is traveling but is considered day to day. Didn’t mention any news on Paddy or Tate.

From PSU perspective didn’t sound like RBY was wrestling because didn’t see the need to make weight back to back days since he starting to outgrow weight class.

Per OSU match notes/lineups

No. 11 Malik Heinselman 125 or Andre Gonzales (r-Fr.)
Nic Bouzakis (Fr.) 133
No. 18 Dylan D'Emilio 141 or Jordan Decatur
No. 3 Sammy Sasso 149 or Gavin Brown
No. 18 Paddy Gallagher 157 or Isaac Wilcox
No. 18 Paddy Gallagher 165 or Isaac Wilcox
No. 7 Ethan Smith 174
No. 5 Kaleb Romero 184 or Seth Shumate (Fr.)
No. 22 Gavin Hoffman 197
No. 9 Tate Orndorff 285 or Mike Misita (r-Fr.)

I am going to be interested in 165 since many have speculated that Paddy may be cutting too much, and given Wilcox looked gassed in the 2nd & 3rd periods in his last outing, should be an interesting match no matter who they send out there.

Why is Hepner not getting matches at 165 when Kharchla out?

Right now, the only wrestler I'd put $ on to AA is Romero.

Romero is going to have to win for OSU to pull out the victory with Sammy losing and no Carson.
