Sammy Sasso is not mediocre on his feet. He's unorthodox. So was Ben Askren

Quote from Jim Kessen's post:

"Mendez 2 - finished 6 -4
Dylan 9 - finished 4 +5
Sasso 1 finished 1
Gallagher 12 finished 13 I think
Carson 5 finished 3 +2
Smith 3 finished 3
Romero 2 finished 2
Hoffman 7 finished DNP
Tate 7 finished 4 +3

Over all Bucks wrestled better than expected in most weights. Mendez looks like he hit freshman wall a little bit.

Healthy Malik and i think Bucks finish 3rd."

Objectively speaking this was a pretty good tournament for the Buckeyes.

125 was not going to end well.

157 Paddy had a rough weekend; but he is not that far removed from being an AA. He is doing some of the things he needs to do at that level, however, some other things need improvement. He beat Chumbley. Wrestled even with Robb during the regular season. Siebrecht is a tricky wrestler, but his trickery can be neutralized just like anyone else. Haines is really good. The thing that most impressed me with him is that he sets the pace and is mistake free.

Also, you can always prevent positions. It is just as important as creating them. But it's not taught that way.

Also, mistake free wrestling is the way to win a championship. One mistake is a difference maker/breaker.

197 Hoffman came on at the end of the season last year. Unfortunately, he was getting better with every match and this year his competitions have been few.

Elephant in the room.

Silas Allred took neutral in the third due to Max Dean being a monster on top. Not sure which coach made the call but thank you to whoever did. Manning, Tervel, Snyder. Give that man a medal, rather a Big Ten Championship.

Mendez should have taken neutral. It provided the best chance of winning. We know he lost making the decision he did. We don't know the outcome had he chose neutral but Jesse is best on his feet at this point in his career and scoring takedowns is his best bet.

The regular season and the post season are two different things. If you lose in the regular season and turn it around post season you get a higher seed at NCAAs. That goes the opposite way as well. As a general rule, you want the highest seed possible.

Now he enters as more of 11/12 seed instead of a 6. Very likely to see Big Ten opponent in the consolation side with those guys being bunched up in seeds 6-12. Cannon, Ragusin, Byrd and Nagao.

Still questioning neutral. Watch the Allred match again.

I'm only coaching girls this year. Made the switch to try and build the program at Bellefontaine. Had 2 girls in HS and 7 in JH. Had 1 girl with legit chance to make state. Up 7-0 in quarters (and it was her "go-to" match as top 3 were clearly ahead of the rest) and on a tilt, turns wrong way, right to her back and gets decked. Told her after that match yesterday almost word for word what you typed here. Saw same thing in B1G third place match. Dude up 6-0 gets decked. Could cause him to not make podium with much more difficult draw now. One mistake and boom.

I used to be that "old school" always go down guy. Have gotten out of that in the last 3 years, finally, but still a reflex that needs to be supressed from time to time. Hardest situation is when it's 0-0 after 1 and it's our choice. In HS, first point scored gets choice in the OT TB...but I digress.[/quote]
