Big Ten channel reran the 2018 TOSU vs Iowa dual last night. Buckeyes won TB1G championship and were national runner up that season. Went into the national championship tournament with two #1 seeds, two #2 seeds, a 3, 4 and 5. We ended that tournament with 8 AAs. Our lowest seeded wrestlers were Teshaun Campbell #13, Micha Jordan #7 and Bo Jordan #6. IMO this is the best team the Buckeyes have ever had. My question, will we ever again see this strong and deep a team representing TOSU?

Depends on the development of this group of freshman/sophomores. I feel pretty confident in saying that no one will approach the level that Snyder and Logan were at. 90% of it is work, ability/talent, and athleticism. The last ten percent is timing and the quality opponents you run up against. Feldman, Bousakis, and Mendes are poised to be at the same level as a Bojo, Tomasello, Myles, or Moore. I’m not sure the rest of the team has shown enough to give a fair indication of ability. Really, with Feldmans injury it’s difficult to say as well. If I’m being honest the answer is no. 2018 stands as a line of demarcation in the program. Snyder’s departure and the consolidation of senior level talent at PSU represented the death nell of any other program sniffing the team title. I believe OSU will always be in trophy contention, but the run from 2015-2018 is unlikely to be replicated.

I caught that 2018 OSU/Iowa replay yesterday, and I know it sucks that Snyder went to PSU OTC, but I forgot what a beast he was for his 4 years at tOSU. He completely manhandled the Iowa 2nd stringer in his final match at home for tOSU. It was a treat to watch that dual meet again. Hoping they can get another team like they had in 2018.

That 2018 team was aided by two transfers, McKenna and Campbell. This was of course before our current NIL and transfer rules, but touches closely to another current thread. I find it interesting, Jared, that you say Feldman, Mendez and Bouzakis are poised to reach the level of NATO, Bojo, Martin and Moore. Each of these four were 4 time AAs (giving Kollin the benefit of the doubt for the Covid year), none ever finishing lower than fifth. Not to pick too closely, but Mendez finished lower than any of them, 6th, last season. Of course, maybe he’ll finish as a 3 time finalist. My only point is we were spoiled by the stretch of success we had from 2015-18, and that the expectations for our three freshmen are amazingly high.

Agreed. Maybe a better way to put it would be that all should, and have the ability to be multiple AA caliber athletes. Maybe a title or two gets captured but I don’t know that we know enough to call any of them generational talents. Time will tell.

Definitely not a stretch to call the 2018 team the greatest runner up in NCAA history. A dual vs. the 2015 title team wouldn't even be competitive.

125) Tomasello (2018) dec. Tomasello (2015), 3-0
133) Pletcher (2018) dec. DiJulius (2015), 6-0
141) Stieber (2015) dec. McKenna (2018), 6-3
149) Hayes (2018) dec. Stieber (2015), 9-3
157) Jordan (2018) dec. Demas (2015), 12-3
165) Jordan (2015) maj. Campbell (2018), 12-7
174) Jordan (2018) dec. Martin (2015), 15-7
184) Martin (2018) dec. Courts (2015), 18-7
197) Snyder (2015) dec. Moore (2018), 18-10
285) Snyder (2018) maj. Tavanello (2015), 22-10

Will OSU score 133.5 or more again? It's possible. Would need most of the current recruits to hit (i.e. AA caliber), and to then add a couple of timely transfers.

Perhaps if a dot netter hits the powerball we can make it happen.

I'll be one of the first to admit that I'm not a fan of NIL, transferring without impunity, free-agency, etc., but I have noticed in each of InterMat's Offseason Transfer Trackers that Ohio State has no transfers listed: https://intermatwrestle.com/articles.html/college/offseason-transfer-tracker-752023-r98351/

Even though I don't like it, if Ohio State wants to compete with Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan, they need to play that game too.

If I were to pick someone that would be a nightmare matchup for Pletcher it would be JDJ.
