I do think Hepner is a little banged up right now. Hoffman, no idea.

Excited to see the young guys compete but a little bummed about apparent injuries to Hepner and Hoffman. Had they gone, 165 and 197 would’ve been two of the most anticipated matches of the night.

I’m not convinced Hepner is better than Wilcox.

watching now but not getting sound. If you are watching, are you hearing anything?

NVM, getting sound now.

125: Peyton Fenton dec. Vinny Kilkeary, 2-1

141: Garrett Lautzenheiser dec. Boede Campbell, 5-0

149: Gavin Brown dec. Klay Reeves, 4-2

157: T.J. Schierl dec. Pat Downing, 9-6 (SV-1)

197: Michael Misita dec. Cole Robertson, 9-2

285: Hogan Swenski dec. Nicholas Boykin, 8-2

141: Brandon Cannon FALL Garrett Lautzenheiser, 0:14

Prelim results. Fenton over Kilkeary is noteworthy. I don't know anything about Garrett Luatzenheiser but a 14 sec pin is impressive unless I'm the opponent. Presumeably, Jesse Mendez will be a bit tougher.

Kilkeary was the superior wrestler but couldn’t finish a shot at the end when he locked up a nearside cradle on the edge. Credit to Fenton for fighting it off but this is a match Kilkeary likely wins next time. They were even except for a penalty point when Kilkeary pushed Fenton out of bounds to retain control on top.

Kilkeary might be small for the weight, as he looked to be giving up a few pounds.

Brandon Cannon is an enormous 141, unless the kid he wrestled is that much smaller

One thing about Wilcox, he was willing to wrestle 157 or 165 last year, and was at least competitive in his matches. Nice guy to have in case of injuries during the year, and he's as strong as an ox. A real team player.

I believe he was a D2 champ at Louisville HS and wrestled a year at WVU before transferring to tOSU.

If he's not, that's a huge problem.

Wilcox has never beaten a ranked opponent. He's probably 10th or 11th in the Big 10. Hepner has beaten Cam Amine and Kharchla (in a wrestle off).

There's no debate over who has the higher ceiling. It's just a question of whether Hepner can put it on the mat for a full (or most of a) season.

Fenton /Kilkeary/Mccrone I feel are about all about at the same level. Probably borderline qualifiers and minimal NCAA points. Kilkeary has most upside but still don’t see him as a big scorer at ncaas in the future. Fenton beat mccrone in high school at Ironman. Probably won’t know starters until the opens. This weight may be one we need to look into the portal next year when the door opens a little bit for Ohio state to make a run.

Brandon Cannon I watched at Ironman last year and immediately was impressed. He beat number one Bailey and won easily over Bouzakis. He lost in finals to Webster who mendes also lost to last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if Cannon keeps this close with Mendes . Cannon came into a very crowded room and I hope we find a spot for him eventually. He dealt with a lot of health issues in his career so may not have even peaked. Excited about his future.

Rocco and kharchla is another good match. Hope to see the old Carson back at a healthier weight with more offense. Also want to see how Rocco matches up with him and the future of this weight.

Shumate and Ryder is another good one. I am hoping Ryder actually wins this one. I think Shumate has kind of already peaked and just don’t ever see him being a threat at the NCAA level. I think Ryder will be the future of this weight. 184 and 125 will probably be the weakest weight classes this year for the buckeyes.

197 I really hope Geog beats Hoffman. I would rather get Geog the experience for the future and if they are close it should be awarded to Geog. Burning a year of eligibility could be detrimental to his future development.

I understand the sentiment but I think Shumate deserves some credit for the way he approached last season. Because of the way his high school career went, I think a lot of people (i.e. myself) had a perception that perhaps there were some focus or work ethic issues underlying some of his struggles.

Haven't seen any of that since he showed up on campus. Dropped the weight mid season. Wrestled a full open tourney slate. Showed improvement throughout the year. If he's the guy this year I think he'll be competitive in the Big 10.

I mean sure, he's not a walk-in-the-door 4x AA, but there are only a handful of those guys in every recruiting class. Could he have an Ethan Smith type of career? I think so.

If Rogotzke is already competitive with Shumate I think that bodes very well for his future, and is a good problem to have.

Reading on another site Gavin Hoffman dropping to 184. Interesting. Opens the door for Geog at 197.
