Quote from Drew Taylor's post:

"He hasn’t gotten the attention he deserves but Kharchla looks great up at 174. He’s in the quarters with two first period falls and, with Griffith getting upset, he’s the highest seed still in title contention.

Here’s to hoping the knee holds up because through the season’s first month we’re seeding shades of the guy who upset top-ranked Alex Marinelli two years ago."

Great minds :)

Nice to see OU wrestling well

Luke Geog has talent but he needs to get smarter in terms of strategy.

I don't think OSU had a win over a wrestler seeded higher. A few losses to lower/unseeded wrestlers. Not great.

When's the last time a Buckeye was putting it on people like Mendez is this year? Myles in 2019 or Moore in 2020?

Impressive win. Three weeks ago Cornella took Bartlett to OT.

Mendez looks superb. We miss Sammy alot this weekend. Not meant as a swipe at Gallagher. More a commentary on the fact we'd have two studs.

Paddy pulls it out against a game Kellar (Ohio U). McCrone up 7-0 and ends up losing...Feldman gets beat by Bastida who uses one counter repeatedly with success (that's correctable).

When McCrone is good, he's very good. But he's got to become more consistent in a few positions which currently get him into trouble.

Bucks look like who we thought they'd be when the season began. Scrappy but too many top 20 guys and not enough top 10.

184 remains unresolved for the Bucks. Hoffman is eliminated with two losses tonight. He’s just so limited offensively.

I’d like to see what Shumate can do in extended action. Leave Rogotzke in RS for now.

Every Bucks loss today felt close with the exception of Feldman. Correctable mistakes. Gonna be fun to watch this team grow over the next three months.

OU is looking better as a team this year. Not sure how young they are, but there could be some good momentum for the next couple seasons!

Great early season test for the young Bucks. Currently 2nd and not too far off the lead. An upset or two and some solid backside wins and they are in it to win it. ISU is a legitimate trophy contender. Carr is obvious but Bastida is a problem up at this weight, and they have a nice accompaniment of real solid guys in the light weights. This Frost kid is a go’er. It makes the loss to Iowa even more head scratching.

Day 1 Good:
Mendes as most have discussed looks Crisp. He has continued to develop in all phases of his game. Hardy is a formidable match up and poses quite the contrast in style. I think Jesse gets it done. Karchla has also quietly made his way into the semis, and Dylan has gritted his way to the semis. Bousakis and Feldman “should” push through to the consi semis, and I think Feldman can get to 3rd, I’m less confident in Nick.

Day 1 Bad:
Guys with weight issues predictably struggle. Bousakis and Hoffman lacked energy when needed. 184 has to be killing Gavin to maintain. Perhaps over the course of the season he will adapt to the cut, but quite frankly, this performance is more consistent of what we have seen from him for six years on average. The more athletic 184lbers are always going to give him issues, as his style is very rigid, except for when guys are attacking him. 197 was a better weight for him.

Day 1 Ugly
McCrone shows real glimpses of competence but is a liability on bottom. Being up 7-0 and getting ridden like that are problematic. I think he’s likely to show more good than bad, but we need to strap in for a roller coaster of a season with him. Geog also looked very pedestrian. He had no business losing to the UNC kid. I’m curious if he is sick or something. He typically goes rapid fire on his shots. He took only two or three that whole match and looked very sluggish. Didn’t see the wrestle back but I doubt he’s been pinned since jr high or early in high school.

Overall I give the Bucks a solid B- on the day. Lots of room for improvement and much to look forward to. It’s a fun team to watch.
