While that certainly was one of the worst, that situation was the result of a failed rule by the rules makers. It was not a failure of the officials on the mat. They had to call it the way the rule, at that time, said it had to be called.
However, crap never rolls uphill and the two of them had to sit out the following years tournament even though it was not their fault.
Actually, IMO, the way it was explained by the head official (I
forget his name) made less sense than the rule did.
BTW, the rules around this have since been changed.[/quote]

Who job was it to add the riding time point at the end of regulation?

I don't remember the match well enough to comment on that.
I would have to find the match and watch it again.
Was adding a riding time point an issue?
How does that relate to the problem with the clock not starting (which is the issue I assumed you were talking about)?
I ask because I don't remember any sort of stink over that.
Just an FYI, not adding a RT point is a correctable error. The clock not starting properly was not a correctable error. Per the rules, the time had to be rewrestled.

Keep in mind that I am not saying that it was handled well at all.

I think the 2015 NCAA tournament was one of the first (perhaps the first) NCAA championships to have video review, and I hated it right then and there. That was also the year Logan went for his 4th title, so he was the last match of the night. I was in the arena. There were soo many video reviews, and those stoppages drain the energy from the arena. It’s not like there’s another match going on during the finals that you can peak at during the review, so you’re just sitting there in the stands with nothing going on. By the time Logan’s match came around, I had become so drained and fatigued by the delays that the Main Event felt diminutive and I wasn’t able to appreciate it as much as I’d like to.

I just realized that I might have been thinking of the wrong match. So I can find the correct one, could you please let me know what match you are referring to ?
Thanx,
Jim

I am assuming this might be the video of the match in question?
For reasons I do not understand, I can not get this to load either by tabbing on it or copying and pasting it on my laptop. I have tried a bunch of times without any success. Any ideas?

Okay, that worked and showed that I was thinking of a different match. My mistake, ignore the stuff I wrote previously..

I watched the match and, unless I am losing my mind, the missed point was not the riding time point but an escape that was not awarded with 21 seconds to go. The TV score board blocks the view of the official clock but it looks like Miller had 1:38 in riding time?
I "think" the match should have ended 10-9 Miller.

This is a case where everyone shares in the responsibility. I don't know how the NCAA Rule Book reads for things like this but the NFHS says that the coach is responsible for knowing the correct score. Of course the official has the same task. I am rather amazed that the kent staff did not seem to know an escape was not awarded.

The match Jim was thinking of was the Josh Heil vs. Boo Lewallen round of 16 match from 2021.

Now that was the match I was referring to above. The mat officials were hung out to dry by the way the rule was written. It has since been addressed.
BTW, this would never have been an issue in an NFHS event as the rules always allowed us to estimate the amount of time that was used and adjust the clock to reflect it.
