Discussion Topic: Stall calls in Carr v Messenbrink Match

I don't agree with them.
#3 Referee worked some home duals for PSU. I recognize him and remember thinking some his calls were homer. Probably the OSU dual with Kilkeary.
I think he favored Messenbrink in this match due to the stall calls.

Agreed.
The first call Carr earns and escape on the boundary and gets pushed out--not stalling.
The second call they're 4 feet away from the boundary, Mesenbrink takes a half shot, Carr reattacks and scores but gets dinged for stalling.
Terrible officiating. Could've been the difference in the match had Mesenbrink not misunderstood the situation with 30 seconds left.

Honestly it could've been the difference in the match anyway. Carr was a lot closer to stalling in the closing seconds of the match than he was when it was actually called earlier. Had the ref called stalling again at the end, it would have been 2 points and swung the match.
I want to be cautious about Mesenbrink's awareness of the score.
He was still pressuring for most of the last 30 seconds, yes a bit less than he could have. If he had taken more shots, it's far from a given that he would have finished within the remaining time. Carr's defense is fantastic, and while he was fatigued, he was not completely dead. Entirely possible that Carr scores off a Mesenbrink shot in short time.
The first two stall calls were total garbage.

Cael mentioned in his post tourney presser that he wasn't aware.

This is shocking given that he was ridden for almost the entire 1st period. Just a complete brain fart from a team that rarely ever even has gas.
Rex -- you are correct -- #3 and Angel were the two refs that officiated the PSU vs. tOSU dual this year.
And yes, the calls vs. Carr were horrendous.
The stall calls vs. Welsh in the first period were by Angel. And I thought they (especially the 2nd call) was unwarranted. Those two make calls that favor PSU.

In line with what I said a few days ago, I was equally perplexed/confused with the calls in the Welsh/Starocci match. They seemed to be kind of one sided, IMHO.

100% -- and the brutal aspect is how they were called in those matches (and the stalling on Fix in his finals) were NEVER called that way on any day of the year except the finals. THAT, IMHO, is the worst about those calls.
