As is Borschel. Two big scorers for the Hawks will not be placing.

Post Mortem on Palmer vs. Metcalf
Metcalf had a great strategy for the match with Palmer. Last year Palmer played defense and saved up his energy for one last takedown at the end. I think Metcalf's strategy was to let Palmer try to do that again, except this time he would make Palmer get tired by tying up and putting weight on Lance's head. He also made sure that he pushed Lance around and take more shots so that Palmer would get some stalling warnings. Metcalf had to make sure not to let Palmer hurt him on top. So his escape in one second was crucial. That was the one thing that surprised me in the match. I thought Lance would at least try to put in the boots. You could tell Palmer was tired when he didn't really try to escape in the second period. From that point you could tell the match was over. I have to give props to Palmer for preventing bonus points for Iowa.
It's a shame the lineup worked out the way it did so that Johnstone had to wrestle up a weight. If Palmer had redshirted this year, Johnstone would have been 49 with Nemec at 57. Both weights would have been just a little weaker, but Johnstone could have gone out as an All-American and Palmer would have been able to compete at 149 after Metcalf's graduation. Unfortunately, I think that Lance is such a competitor that sitting out a year would have killed him. It would have been for the good of the team but Ryan has the philosophy of no redshirts if you can compete now. It's an aggressive strategy but it has its risks.
Let's hope the Buckeyes can win it all tomorrow!

And a side benefit of not redshirting is that we've been able to get this far in the tournament...it's too early to say we're going to win or lose, but we've got a decent amount of exposure being this surprise team (with some help from Iowa wrestlers not performing).

Morningstar goes down! I love it after seeing how he wrestled against Sponseller.
Plus it means a lot for the Buckeyes team title hopes.

What's up with Sponseller? I wonder if he is cutting too much weight. He starts out each season like a takedown machine with a 35 gallon gas tank, and by the end of the season he has really low scoring matches where his offense disappears. Those are classic symptoms of someone who cuts too much weight or gets nervous at big tournaments, and I don't think it's the latter. Maybe he should take a redshirt next year and let Nemec wrestle 165. That would let Nemec wrestle at a more natural weight and Sponseller would return at 174 and he could concentrate on wrestling instead of cutting.
Let's go Mikey (Miller and Pucillo)! Win it for the Ohio fans!
Post Note: Isn't ESPN360 great? I don't own a TV but I get to see Jaggers pin Gallick and Drouin! Technology is good.

Dustin Schlatter and Teyon Ware won titles as true freshmen. It seems repeating as champion is harder than winning the first one, however.

Mike Miller to the finals! Great for the MAC.
Luke is amazing. Jordan was in deep and couldn't finish.

Mike Miller versus Steve Luke. It as an all Stark County final, or the battle of two of Ohio's best ever 3x state champions.

Pucillo wins 3-2. Looks like everyone gets the matchup of the two NCAA champs.
