Discussion Topic: Penn State at Ohio State this Sunday

Quote from John Ice's post:

"Whoever is at 157 goes against Sanderson, Salazar and Kinser in the next three matches. Three pretty tough oppenents. Wins against any of these guys would be a good way to stay in the lineup."

This is pretty off topic, but this statement got me thinking.

If OSU wants to really have a chance to win the NCAA title, they are going to need to be able to win these type of matches at 157 (Salazar and Kinser, that is). I figure they are going to need 1 or 2 wins at 157, 2 wins from Triggas, 2 from Rella (who honestly has a shot to AA if he shows up focused that weekend), and 1 or 2 each from Magrum and CoMo. I know that's asking a lot, but Iowa and ISU are loaded and have good guys at each weight class. In order to win, we need everyone to score. Also, the "studs" can't underachieve. I think Hump and Palmer both need to be finalists, probably Pucillo, too. Sponseller needs to be top 6.

If Paddock got a win, that would be great.

Like I said, this is asking a lot, but that's what it's going to take to win the title.

This too is a bit off topic and pure speculation, but I think that if Hump had cut to 133 again (and as a senior and having cut so much the last couple years he certainly deserved to go up to 141) we could have had Collin Palmer at 141 and it would have given us a stronger overall lineup as well as more points at the NCAAs. Also a chance for the Palmers to wrestle together in the same lineup one last time. Again, certainly not begrudging Hump for choosing to go up.

Even if he could make it and still have any of his strength, I think they did the right thing. 141 is a pretty deep weight; I'm not sure Collin would have have been a significant upgrade over, Paddock who is doing a serviceable job at 133. I'd just as soon let Hump wrestle at full strength and eat a few more burgers...

Looks like Jameson will be wrestling. Pucillo will not.

Sponseller edges Vallimont 4-2 with two escapes, a stall point, and riding time. Not the way he usually does it, but a great win nonetheless.
